The blink that is on tour in 2023 is nothing like past versions of blink live. It won't be an issue next weekend.

Does no one remember that Blink also headlined over Green Day 20 years ago for an entire tour?

 

Also who cares, it's a co-headline and they can't play at the exact same time

 

I hate to be that guy, but that was 2002, also when Green Day had a decline in popularity…

 

I mean, Green Day is a massive band but Blink is undeniably the bigger draw (particularly with Tom).

I assumed Blink would play first because Green Day's a better, more energetic live act by leaps and bounds and Blink wouldn't want to follow them... But given the hype behind Blink, how successful that last tour was, and the general vibe at a festival like that? It won't really matter.

 

I mean, in term of influence/legacy, I’d argue Green Day was a much more influential band, so I personally think they’d play after Blink now. But with how huge Blink’s tour has been this year, I could see them playing after Green Day too. I think it’s a toss-up

 

That's where my brain goes too. But I feel like, ultimately, it would be Blink's call as to whether they play first or last (e.g., Tom's back, the last tour did astoundingly well). I also feel like the festival definitely leans more toward the vibes of Blink versus Green Day too.

What's wild about Green Day's career, though, is all it takes is like one or two songs and the conversation next year could be entirely different. Haha. That band is due for another bounceback.

Blinks tour was so damn successful, plus they have the new album release, plus the Kardashian bump is real (just ask my mom and wife) m.

Green Day was contracted to play last and they'll play last. They're not ceding billing to blink again.

 

I'm trying to figure out what shirt to wear! My best friend im going with made a t-shirt using his ACTUAL saved ticket stubs of every band at this festival we saw live 2002-2012. He used to save all of them so he made a shirt photocopying them all to the shirt

I mean fuck him! How can I over shadow that

 

I will be wearing a plain T-shirt with a hoodie if it's chilly

Weekend 2 was perfect last year but by time Paramore went on we had to buy hoodies

 

What about from 1994 to 2000 when Green Day released an album which sold 10m in the US alone and several multi-platinum albums before Enema even came out. And that was before American Idiot.

I'd say if you look at worldwide it's definitely GD. Green Day's extra 5 years of mainstream existence, consistent, drama-free line up and regularity of output also contribute to their current popularity not being on par with Blink. They have just always been around for the past 30 years.

It's comparable to say Coldplay, diminishing commercial returns but such is their legacy they will likely continue to play stadiums globally and have a sort of omnipresent legacy like Green Day. Whereas over the past 20 years Blink have come and gone leading to greater excitement.

 

Coldplay has diminishing commercial returns??? Their last album was nominated for the AOTY Grammy and had a single hit #1 on the charts and went platinum. Green Day is no where near their level.

And your 1994-2000 argument is an odd one. Blink didn't even release their first major label album until 1997. By 1999 and 2000 with Enema of the State they were absolutely bigger than Green Day.

I remember in 2000 Warning had just come out and my friends and I were begging our parents to go to the Green Day concert at Roseland Ballroom, a 3,500 cap venue. That same year Blink 182 (with Fenix TX opening) sold out the 15k Jones Beach amphitheater. And then they came back a year later to do two more nights at the same venue!

I feel stupid nitpicking these meaningless details lol. Both bands are massive, will probably both go down as two of the biggest bands of the 21st century. One is just a hair bigger than the other, currently.
No matter who closes, both will for sure put on solid sets!

 

Say Anything still appears to be playing this. So I’d say that schedule posted this week is bunk

 

Yeah....Coldplay is probably the biggest they ever are. Their 2010's output is like...bigger than their 2000's stuff at this point. They just did a stadium tour in NA, they're on a different level than Green Day.

 

Haha, I had the same issue. I now and again could go to shows on weeknights (went to The Offspring at Roseland a few months later) but a last minute Tue night show was just a no-go at age 16. Funny enough, I think I got a free ticket via Tower Records when I bought Warning.

Another aside, remember the K-Rock low dough shows? In 1997 they had Blink 182 and, uh, Sevendust play Irving Plaza. I spent a whole hour trying to convince an older friend to drive me in haha.
