Every time I hear one of the songs from the new album I end up saying 'damn, this is my favorite of the new songs' which I think bodes really well for me in regards to this album. I'm including "Michigan, 1975" in this as well as the official 4 because we heard very high quality recordings of the album track being played.

Same here - reading that made me insanely excited! I mean, I already was, but that just fed the fire even more haha

Local Honey was a record I was initially pretty disappointed by, just because I really loved Sleepwalkers and missed some of the more Gaslight-y elements. (It also didn't help that LH dropped a couple weeks into lockdown.) But it has definitely become my favorite Brian solo album, and I think History Books is just the right mix of that more downbeat/roots-influenced sound and classic Gaslight.

I think I've come all the way back around to thinking Painkillers is Brian's best solo? I know when Sleepwalkers came out I and many others felt like it was more confident and complete of an album but I don't know...Smoke...Nobody Wins...Rosemary...Honey Magnolia...Open All Night...just an insanely strong collection of songs with good production from Butch Walker

Local Honey is great though. Lonely for You Only and Hard Feelings are two of my favorite songs Brian's ever written

I really miss the band on Painkillers. And I love Butch, and think the two of them cooking stuff up in the studio together yielded some awesome results. But I think all those songs would be better with the Gaslight guys playing on them.

I absolutely adore Sleepwalkers so I was very bummed to have something so removed from it. I really turned around on it when we had Milo because I could still listen to Brian without waking him up too much lol

I like Sleepwalkers the best of the three, but I have really come around on Local Honey as well. Initially disappointed, now I love it.

However, a Gaslight album that sounds like Local Honey is NOT what I would prefer as my first choice. I haven't listened to anything except Positive Charge more than once so I really am not quite sure what to expect yet.

All 5 songs that have been available to hear are spectacular. I'm really loving Brian's lyrics about the passage of time, etc. Cannot wait for this album, it feels like it's been the longest rollout of all time lol.

I actually asked Brian this on Instagram and he said it was more of a nod to Hendrix.

    Interesting.

I just listened to the 5 songs released so far and I absolutely love all of them and I actually started to tear up a tiny bit during "History Books" and then full on just let the waterworks loose during "Positive Charge" when he's singing about being invincible many years ago when he was so much younger.

I would have really loved a studio EP of those Molly & The Zombies songs. The live sessions were great.

& I love those songs on Painkillers but I think I liked them more in the upbeat tempo.

I was so lukewarm on "autumn" on first few listens; and now after a few days, it's by far my favorite of the new ones so far. Oct 27th can't come soon enough.

Maybe it's just because so many other bands are doing shorter ones, but this album feels like it's had the longest rollout. I have checked the last couple Fridays thinking it was release day only to be reminded it's another month

Prob doesn’t help that we’ve been expecting it since they announced the reunion like two years ago lol

It's been an insanely long rollout, and I don't get it at all. Feel like getting it out there at the beginning of the tour would have made so much more sense. I have to assume it was a vinyl thing.

this feels like the gang of youths rollout except that album wasn’t from a band coming off a long hiatus lol

Positive Charge still feels like a composite of much better Gaslight songs to me, it and Desire are like my only Gaslight skips lol. everything else has been so good and i think each has been better than the last

I love how life affirming and triumphant positive charge is. By the way I just want to appreciate how fucking good Brian’s lyrics are on these songs, like damn dude I don’t want to feel this emotional on my way to work lol:

And I know love goes longer than this lifetime
And I know time goes faster than my mind
So if you wanna find me, I'll be down the shoreline
