You really need to finish that season, it closes out Capaldi's run on a massive high note. As for the 3 seasons that come after it, good luck!

And yeah these specials are gonna be monumental, I am so excited and think RTD is going to knock it out of the park for his second run.

Jodie was decent enough but I don't think she had the chops to elevate the material. Though if she had, she'd have had to do it for nearly every single episode. She'd be a walking goddess if she pulled off that kinda feat. I didn't envy her. It's wild to me that the BBC knew the kind of backlash that was gonna happen when they announced her as the Doctor but then proceeded to botch her entire run with some of the worst writing the show has ever had. You'd think they would want to put her in the best position possible to succeed.

But here we are. Bringing back David Tennant for a ratings boost. Oh how far this show has fallen.

I still maintain the best series of Modern Who is Series 9. Other than Sleep No More, every single story it told ranged from good to classic. It was a remarkable achievement. I actually think Capaldi had the most consistently high quality stories in general though. Moffat was on his A game at the time. I thought he was burning out by the end of the 11th Doctor's run because he was writing both Doctor Who and Sherlock at the same time. But man, once he started focusing all his energy on DW again, Capaldi got the absolute best stuff he's ever written. If RTD can even get halfway back to that kind of quality, I think the show will be in good shape again.

RTD agreed to take back over as showrunner and cast Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor, but Gatwa had filming commitments most notably for Barbie and the final series of Sex Education during the time allocated for a series of specials to commemorate the show's 60th anniversary. So he approached David Tennant about reprising the role for the three specials, and Tennant said yes. It's unclear what the in-universe reason will be, but the idea of revisiting old faces has come up a few times most notably during Moffat's tenure with Tom Baker's cameo in Day of the Doctor and references to The Fires of Pompeii featuring Peter Capaldi.

  9. Wait the new Doctor played in Barbie?

    This is my Wholock

  10. Decided to throw on Matt smiths first episode and it's just so good. Maybe my favorite.

Maybe I gotta make my way through the series again. I didn't get past Jodie's first season. Not because I didn't like her, but just lost interest.

  12. For as much as I don’t really like the Smith/Moffatt era as a whole, it starts so incredibly strong.

It’s wild to go from the incredibly convoluted plotlines of seasons 6 and 7 for Smith, to the (relatively) streamlined season 8 and 9 plot lines for Capaldi. Cannot believe both fall in the Moffat era, tonally completely different.

I'll always stan s6 but yeah 7 is a mess and not in the fun way. I'll always remember my best friend and I watching Day of the Moon together and just losing our shit at the Silence reveal. I was like 13 and it blew my fucking mind

  15. The break in the middle of 6 is when I started watching live after binging the whole show that summer, so maybe that’s connected to why I think the show goes way downhill around that time, although 6 does have my two favorite Smith episodes (“The Doctor’s Wife” and “The Girl Who Waited,” both notably not Moffatt episodes).

fwiw even though The Doctor’s Wife is credited to Gaiman it was rewritten by Moffat pretty heavily, it's pretty much a joint effort from them. frankly doubt it would be as good as it is otherwise based on Nightmare in Silver lol

As a Jodie apologist of sorts, her era is at least short. 26 episodes and 5 specials, so if you are doing a binge watch you can definitely fit it in. I've been rewatching it recently though it's been interrupted by BBC iPlayer insisting I'm on a VPN despite being in the middle of Sheffield and my landlord refusing to do anytihng about it.

Didn't enjoy series 12 as much as 11 even leaving aside certain controversial plot developments, but I found Flux to be a fun ride and the specials are all good with the exception of Sea Devils. Power especially.

Still no airdate, but this is exciting. The comparisons to Loki will be even more relentless though.

I got the Timey Wimey magic the gathering deck(9th-11th focused), and it’s so flavorful and clever I cannot wait to use it

  23. Someday I'll watch all of the classic series. Tales of the Tardis sounds cute, but it also sounds like it won't be on Disney+ for the US.

I'm watching again from the start. it never bothered me before but it really sticks out how much of the first two seasons are set on Earth
