What shows have you seen there? I’ve only seen TSSF, but I’m still salty over the line and having to miss Microwave.

Live Nation Ending Merch Cuts

This is really cool and all but... How about we just stop them because it's the right thing to do and not because an older artist with plenty of money to spare is footing the bill?

Like, this is awesome of Willie to do this kind of thing, but it really shouldn't be necessary. The "merch cuts" are still there. Willie Nelson is just covering the bill.

 

Where did it say he was paying? Didn't get that at all from the article or site

 

Expect ticket prices/concessions to increase in lieu of this. That profit has gotta be made up from somewhere unfortunately but at least it won't cut into smaller acts income.

 

$1500 select artist bonus is cool for the artist but not so cool when you think about how it’ll really hurt the independent venues/promoters.

Feels like a way for Live Nation to snag some of these artists into their world and clear the indie calendars.

 

The Rolling Stone article does a better job of articulating it. But effectively, the merch cuts are being eliminated in partnership with a program he set-up ("On the Road Again") that will also include the $1,500 for artists. So I read that as this foundation/program is paying out the merch cuts...

I think this article explains things pretty well. That's cool they're doing this at the 77 "club level" venues they decided on... but there are several hundred more theaters, arenas, amphitheaters, stadiums, AND festivals they either "own, operate, have exclusive booking rights for, or have an equity interest in". So cool that like, idk, 12% of your events won't have merch cuts anymore I guess. It's better than zero, but let's keep going
