I mean, Cyberpunk 2077 looks vastly better in the RT 30FPS on consoles plus it’s a RPG shooter so it’s not that big of a deal. That said, I am applying that argument for only that game.

 

Player's Log: Trails From Zero.

I saved just after getting my first orbments, with plans to continue tomorrow after work.

But already I'm very impressed with the higher production values on this game. I mean, part of it is because I'm sure this port was heavily touched up, unlike the Sky ports, but there's some definite love put into it, and it looks great.

Also, huge fan of the QOL option of automatically progressing voiced dialogue, and that alone makes all the difference. I may actually not turn the volume down and opt for Spotify this time around.

 

@Penlab what’s a good play order for Trails games? I only have PS5 and Switch.

 

goddamn I'm only 20 hours into CS1, Penlab gonna be done with every game before I finish those 4 games lol

 

Well, it's my understanding that the order of the arcs is Sky, Crossbell (Zero and Azure), and then Cold Steel, leading to Reverie. And then the upcoming Daybreak follows that.

 

Can I skip Sky and be fine starting at Crossbell? I’m researching and there’s not a way for me to play Sky.

 

I just started Crossbell, so I don't know how to answer that, but based on what I know, characters and concepts from Sky will show up in Crossbell, so I'm leaning towards no?

I feel like it would do the series a disservice to not start at the beginning.

This is the timeline. You can disregard the first 3, as those are only available on the PSP/Vita/PC.

Trails from Zero is the start of the Crossbell arc which includes Zero and Azure. These 2 are available on PS4 and switch.

Basically the first game available on the PS5 is Reverie, which is the culmination of all the games. However, Cold Steel 3 and 4 are coming to PS5 next year. Cold Steel 1 and 2 are only available for the PS4 though.

 

Nope. I have a super old laptop for emergencies, but I do everything on my phone.

 

If you can mod a Vita you can get the sky trilogy and cold steel 1 and 2.

That's how I'm doing it.

 

How old is the laptop? It's not like the Sky games are super demanding.

 

HOW old? The sky trilogy is suuuuuper old and doesn't require any hardcore extensive PC power.

 

Waiting for me and Freud to just merge into one being.

 

Haha I’m not sure about the specs. I got it as a gift refurbished. I might just download Trails From Zero on Switch and go from there.

Honestly if it's able to even run steam, it'll probably run the games.

If you're gonna start with Zero then I'd suggest watching SOME sort of Sky recap because the games are alllllll interconnected as it's all happening in the same world, just different countries. Characters cross over all the time, events get referenced, etc.

This is a good recap split into 3 parts, one video for each game.

 

I wouldn't recommend that, but you do you.

But it's my understanding that Zero has an emotional payoff for characters from Sky that won't mean nearly as much if you don't know the story.

Yeah a recap will just do that, recap the story but this series has emotional gut punches and moments of pure comedy that a recap won't be able to replicate. And character interactions.....oh boy. The writing is one of the best things I've enjoyed in this, the way the cast bickers back and forth one moment, then a few minutes later have an emotional scene......it's so worth it.
