I think I just like Hickman no matter what, I'm reading Ultimate Invasion and absolutely adoring it, but also don't understand the context of half of it, much like reading his X Men run.

The Maker is just a straight up great villain.

This article about Marc Silvestri, following his career from Conan, to Uncanny X-Men & Wolverine, to Image & Top Cow, to his recent Batman miniseries for DC’s Black Label… is very thorough and very good. I highly recommend it if you like his work.

  4. Really liked Batwoman's Rebirth run. Not quite as good as JH Williams III run but definitely better than the two volumes that came after.

That's wild. Can't be any worse than 616 Spiderman right now. I'm in.

Jonathan Hickman & Marco Checchetto on a Spider-Man series that’s starting from square one and not tied to 616 canon is just… wild and unbelievably thrilling to me, lol. I cannot believe we’re getting that from this team.

…what if it eventually ties into that Amazing Fantasy 1000 story the two of them did and becomes the first comic book Spider-Verse story that doesn’t suck?

I’d say “Spider-Man fans are eating good,” but “Spider-Man fans” are the biggest losers (I’m guessing still whining about Paul, but I’m just not paying attention to them anymore, lol), so whatever.

Woah that’s exciting! Are we taking bets yet if it’s Peter or Miles leading the book? Personally I’m hoping for Miles to give him a place to be the focus again.

  12. What exactly is an ultimate universe? All I know is the prime timeline for DC is Earth 1 and for Marvel is Earth 616?

Ultimate was a way to make a more modern, reimagined take of characters. A lot of it was a big mess, but I personally think Ultimate Spider-Man was a masterpiece. It was Earth 1610

The new version of “the Ultimate Universe” as seen so far in Ultimate Invasion is Earth 6160, not the Earth 1610 of the original Ultimates. It’s a new universe that The Maker went to, in order to… y’know, remake it as he saw fit. Marvel is intentionally using the “Ultimate” branding and aesthetic signifiers, but it’s pretty clearly (so far) a new thing.

I kinda doubt that the new “Ultimate Spider-Man” is Miles. Absolutely not the Miles we’ve known so far, who is comfortably at home in 616 at this point alongside Kamala, Peter, etc., and will be in the midst of the “Gang War” storyline when this new book starts. Whoever it is, I feel quite confident it’ll be a new version of the character built from the ground up by Hickman & Checchetto.

This bit from last week’s Immortal Thor #2 was so good. Thor channeling the depths of his power over storms to access “the calm before the storm” and bring peace to a ravaged city. No one does mythic like Al Ewing.

So, there is a new creator owned comic book company publishing through Image called Ghost Machine.

Co-owned by Geoff Johns and Brad Meltzer plus Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Lamont Magee, Francis Manapul, Peter J. Tomasi, and Maytal Zchut.

It features 4 shared universes. One of which is a horror-themed shared universe involving an as-of-yet unnamed superstar creator.

Sorry, people with “taste,” but this looks dope to me, lol. Hope it materializes into a proper movie, and also hope Liefeld gets around to drawing more of his own stuff instead of all Marvel & licensed shit.

I made an impromptu stop to my local shop and picked up some random number ones.

Kill Your Darlings, Nights, Phantom Road, Coda, Fishflies, Tenement, Rangers Academy, and The Sacrificers.

The Sacrificers and Kill Your Darlings were really good. Nights was…interesting. Definitely some promise there.

Still have to read Coda, Fishflies, and Tenement.

Edit: Ok, no surprise, Fishflies 1 was very good. Jeff Lemire is special.
