The Gaslight Anthem - History Books (October 27th 2023) Album • Page 17

  1. I would suggest muting expectations that the rest of the album will sound different (or be a loud driving rock album).

The best way I can explain what i’ve heard so far is that it sounds like a “the sun is coming up and i’m having coffee on my porch” rock record, and my old bones are cool with that.

  4. Album's closer to Local Honey than anything else they've done.

That stinks because i think those records sound great.

That makes sense for a lot of reasons.

The new songs sound great as long as I play them on anything other than my phone. Moral of the story is that Gaslight and all other artists should record, mix, and master their songs to sound best on my shitty Android phone that I have dropped into the water trying to watch movies in the tub two (2) times now.

I fucking love that album, so that's certainly not a bad thing even if it's not what I expected from a TGA reunion album.

I agree! I love how they wore the arena rock hugeness of Handwritten especially. But I get why they wanted to steer in a different direction.

I am obsessed with that album, but would have never guessed that'd be the direction based off Little Fires and Positive Charge. I could kind of see it with History Books.

This is also a perfect example of not listening to mp3 files

Same here! Although I am going to go online and publicly and loudly complain that this is not a 34-song quasi-triple album à la Zach Bryan's American Heartbreak. 24 more songs or GTFO!!!

Give me another ballad like 21 Days. Love that song more than anything

I love all of Local Honey, but the standout track for me is absolutely "No Hard Feelings".

Hard Feelings is so fucking good. I love the synth in it, I feel like Brian nailed a Leonard cohen type vibe with lyrics

Local Honey is a great Brian Fallon record but I don't want it as a Gaslight Anthem record lol

After a shitty week, I just got back from walking my dog, slightly tipsy, and just shuffling songs from all their albums. This band is so good and I don’t listen to them nearly as much as I should.

Isn’t the producer the same guy who did Local Honey?

I’m sure it will be great but Ted Hutt is the best producer for this band IMO
