I'd never listened to Zach Bryan before. I'm loving this one

The new Morgan Wade album is about 50/50 on first listen but all the songs I like are awesome. Great bookends, sounds like she’s really gone through some stuff.

I only listened to Psychopath once but thought there were a few great songs in there. Songs kind of blended together since everything has a similar vibe.

I generally think Morgan Wade’s more upbeat stuff is a lot better than her ballads, and I still mostly think that. Was totally not prepared for the closer on this album, though. A lot of the record seemed almost kitschy (which I liked) and then you throw that left hook? Can’t deny it was effective, but again, not what I thought I was getting.

That's surprising for me to hear! I felt like most of her music is about getting through her rough past. Sure "80's Movie" is kitschy, but "Domino" and "Losers Look Like Me" are pretty unambiguous. Maybe I'm just projecting based on the number of tattoos she has.

  6. Finally just listened to the new Kelsea Ballerini EP. Looooved it!

The new version with the live track or the one from earlier in the year?

  8. I listened to both. I liked the bonus track a lot on the new version, but the live version of the other song kind of threw off the vibe of the ep.

I agree that it throws off the vibe. I truly enjoy the performance but would have preferred for it to be tacked on at the end.

Was the new Tyler album (EP?) supposed to come out today or is that a surprise release?

he announced it a few weeks ago i think.

and yeah i have a hard time calling 7 songs including a cover an album..lol. i've liked each release of his less than the previous since purgatory which is a huge bummer considering how much i love that record.

Purgatory is one of the true masterpieces of modern country music, but I’ve also haven’t liked any of his other work anywhere near as much.

Update: Really was not feeling this Tyler Childers EP on any level. Not really sure what my hang-up with him is at this point. I think he has such a great voice, but I feel like the songs he writes don't really employ it that well?

Hm I actually enjoyed the new Tyler more than his last couple. There’s not much there but I really like the title track and the cover of Help Me Make It Through the Night, and In Your Love is moving to me every time.

The bible scripture and Percheron Mules songs are the tracks that don’t do much for me but idk, I like hearing songs like that if only because they’re so deeply rooted in an actual country life that is so far from my own

The last album didn’t do much for me but I’ll slide in a few of these songs with my favorite of Tyler’s older shit

I liked last year’s album better, but don’t go back to it much.

Nice thing about streaming is you can just make the version you want as a playlist!

New Ashley McBryde album kicks ass. She’s quietly(?) stacking up quite a discography. The production reminds me of the Dixie Chicks at times for some reason.

I think Tyler has found a backing band that he really loves and that kills it at live shows and he's made two records now with a lot more focus on that, to the detriment of the songs where his voice really shines.

Also, I saw someone point out that the tracklist of each of his studio albums has decreased by 1, like he's counting down.

I’d be more bummed about how short the album is if we didn’t get two albums in less than a year. It took three years between Country Squire and the next proper album (besides the instrumental album) so he’s still put out a good amount of music between these two most recent ones.

I do think if you combined these tracks you’d have one great album though:

    1. Old Country Church
    2. Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven
    3. Way of the Triune God
    4. Angel Band
    5. Heart You’ve Been Tending
    6. Rustin in the Rain
    7. Phone Calls and Emails
    8. Help Me Make It Through the Night
    9. In Your Love
    10. Space and Time
