  1. I got the B&N variant hardcover for Poison Ivy vol 1! I'd usually go for the paperback but I had some rewards points saved up.

I just saw that Batgirls has ended after 19 issues; looks like the third tpb--which I've already preordered--will be the last. I just hope there will be more stories for Cass and Steph.

On the business side of things, I guess it makes sense that Batgirls only came out in paperback, whereas more popular titles like Harley's and Ivy's volumes first come out in hc and then in tpb a year later. At first I thought it was kind of weird that Harley v3 hc came out before v2 tpb

DC’s collected editions program is wild, lol, and not in a good way. It takes forever for some things to get their regular tpb collections. And, a lot of trade programs for classic runs get canceled before the whole run is collected.

The one thing they’ve started doing that I love, though, is use the “compendium” format (thick enough to be an omnibus, but paperback & the trim size of a normal comic, for a pretty fair price). Got the two Milestone ones so far, and looking to eventually get the Tom Strong one.

Anyone got a favorite galactus run of comics they’d suggest? Ideally one where he wins but I’m fine with whatever lol

I like the run where Galactus was actually a good guy restoring planets instead of eating them. Everyone won with that one.

Al Ewing’s version of Ultimates from 2016 has a reimagining of Galactus that’s pretty easily the coolest modern version of the character. If you read and enjoy that, you could then pretty easily go into Ewing’s two Defenders miniseries that he did with Javier Rodríguez; they’re gorgeous, super cool stories about Marvel’s cosmology that include Taaia, the mother of from a past version of the universe of Galan, who becomes Galactus.

If you’re down with exploring classic comics… I think you should probably first read (if you haven’t already) the original Galactus story from the 60s Fantastic Four #48-50, by Jack Kirby & Stan Lee. Another worthy classic is Silver Surfer: Parable by Moebius & Stan Lee, which isn’t set in main continuity but is beautiful to look at; Moebius was a great legend in European comics.

Hickman’s Fantastic Four run, while not being about Galactus only, has some great stuff with him.

  8. Finished book one of Monstress, finally. It's not bad or anything--on the contrary, I actually quite like it--I was just having trouble for a while there motivating myself to read, well, anything at all. Anyway, it's a little hard to follow at first because so much exposition and world building is being thrown at you, but the art is absolutely gorgeous

  9. Speaking of gorgeous artwork, holy crap the first volume of Poison Ivy is just breathtaking from start to finish. Fungal Pam looks so fucking badass. Also I love the story so far, especially how strongly it humanizes Pamela

Sometimes you just need comics about women with red hair, revealing outfits, and fantastic murder skills.

Marcio Takara really leveled up on this run, imo. Pam is so grounded and human when she needs to be, and then yeah, looks absolutely STUNNING when she’s at her most majestically fungal.

    Immortal Thor #1, y’all!!!

I have tried to really throw myself into comics lately. Mostly, I am going through an X-Men re-read from New X-Men onward hitting the highs/major storylines.

But, I also think I am going to do a re-read of Rick Remender's creator-owned stuff. I am not sure if I ever got the end of Deadly Class, Black Science, or Low. I'll probably run through those side-by-side with my X-Men reading.

Catching up on the current Iron Man run since he’s becoming part of the X-Men books and while there’s some fun ideas, that book is a real drag. I don’t know if it’s because there’s a lot of baggage from previous recent runs that weigh it down or that the two main characters of Tony and Feilong are constantly whining, but its probably one of my least liked of the X related books of the Krakoa era.

  17. I haven't started Lumberjanes but I had vols. 1-3 and today at the used book store I just got 4 and 6. I noticed 6 isn't written by ND Stevenson, so I looked it up and apparently they left the series after the first seventeen issues. soooo depending on how I like the series I may or may not continue collecting it...? It's rather long, and my main draw was the author.

I also got vol. 1 of Bendis' Alias

Just saw that new Boom! book with Tom King and Peter Gross that is a re-telling Animal Farm.

Gotta say, the idea of a former CIA spook "re-imaging" that book has me more than a little frightened. But I am excited about more Peter Gross art.

I normally love everything Hickman touches, but what the hell is going on in Ultimates Invasion? Is it just supposed to be some meta commentary on why the ultimate universe existed in the first place?

  22. Tim

grateful all the fucking time Supporter

The initial version of Ultimate Invasion was to be by Donny Cates & Bryan Hitch, following the Maker thread from Venom. But, when Donny had his accident and had to drop everything, Hickman stepped in (and reinvented it, because he’s a very different writer).

I’ve skimmed more of it than I’ve read, so what I know is largely secondhand. But, I think there probably is an intentional meta layer? Like, it’s earth 6160, which is basically an alternate universe version of another alternate universe, lol.

I do know that there’s an Ultimate Universe one-shot in November, which will then lead to a new line of books that we know nothing about thus far. I’m more interested in that than this mini, tbh, lol. Hickman’s great at creating worlds for others to play in; if Marvel can get interesting creators on the spin-off books, it should be cool.

Anyways, Ms Marvel: The New Mutant #1 was really good!

Best Kamala book since GWW. Iman Vellani & Sabir Pirzada did such a good job. Pirzada also is writing Cult of Carnage: Misery; both issues that dropped today were great at effectively building off a lot of past stories, while directly addressing big, serious ideas. Glad Vellani didn’t have to do data pages in her first comic, lol. The only thing I’d change is, Herring should’ve colored it instead of Arciniega.

They have comics on disks? (stubbornly refuses to accept the terminology)
