They were one of the best modern alt rock bands for *a* decade, but not this one lol

There’s a new album thread, and this thread is still active?

Time to double down on New Again praise.

  8. The band’s last 3 albums are as good if not better than their first 3

we just get wrapped up in nostalgia

the thing is that they're not though

WYWTB and Louder Now are their peak. TAYF is good but overpraised because of nostalgia. I get people don't like New Again even though it's good. The last 3 are bad to fine. Don't return to any of them.

Having just relistened to Louder Now and their last two albums, I would put Tidal Wave on par or at least very close to Louder Now and TAYF and Happiness Is above both. So I'm with Drew on this one.

I mean, for me, the core problem with Drew’s take is that self-titled is far and away the worst album. It’s an EP of good-to-great material surrounded by the absolute least appealing version of what they can be. And that includes the demo bonus tracks that some say hint at a better album; I personally don’t agree.

When I’ve spent some time with the two albums that came after, I’ve found a lot that I really like (though I don’t think either one flows that well). But, I skipped both upon release specifically because the self-titled was such a bummer in the end, after a lot of excitement leading up to it.

Their bottom two albums are both about to be directly in the middle of their discography anyways

Happiness Is is on par with LN for me. Tidal Wave is a notch below but still above S/T and New Again

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

They've been pretty good since the original lineup reunion but one of the best modern alt rock bands of the past decade? No way. They dont come close especially with how hit or miss they are live. Not to mention their output compared to the first 3 records just does not come close.

Side by side their first 3 records run circles around the last 3 they've put out. S/t is a bit of a mess, HI is a step in the right direction for sure, but half of TW is boring as hell.

GREEN DUDES BEST GREEN DAY PODCAST Prestigious

I don’t dislike their self-titled as much as most people on here, but Happiness Is and Tidal Wave honestly might be my top two records from them. TAYF isn’t even listenable to me anymore and the rest of the albums are mixed bags.

Heh I know I'm pretty negative about their new stuff, but at least I'm a huge fan of at least half their albums and they were my favorite band from middle school through my early 20s. Can't imagine disliking all of a band's albums and still frequenting a thread for that band :P (but I'm guessing @SpeckledSouls at least enjoys some songs from their albums?)

  23. I think they love this one at least

I've been saying this too ever since New Again. I was excited that we might get it again once John rejoined, but alas.
