The bridge that always hit for me was Parachute

“Hold my hands out like I'm starting to break
I'm seeing now what I'm doing to the people around me
I'm not supposed to care this much
And I ask myself, who am I?
Well, to anything, have I lost my health?
I still harbor all my anger
I've been staring at the colors in my veins
    How they stay
How I still feel I'm tired, but awake
And somewhere out there there is someone
Thinking of what I haven't gave them yet
And feeling that I can't in my disarray”

I think these re releases makes me feel Rude Records wants to get more from Coming Home before moving to a new album. There was that crazy wait for the vinyl release etc so maybe they are trying to give the coming home album cycle more life? Just an idea

Have a feeling that it's not going to be much different than the current output seeing as they were practically written in succession, unless this year was taken to refine the tracks which it doesn't sound like was the case.

The last few pages took me on a ride. Interested in what I see from them on this upcoming tour.

I've said plenty already but one other thing I can't shake is that TDS is chasing a hit. AJ has said he thought for sure Come Down would get big and he was disappointed that it didn't take off. Then the next album was majority mid-tempo radio rock that eschewed bridges and complexity in favour of immediacy.

The only aspect of this theory I don't have an explanation for as yet is how two of the more up-tempo songs were chosen as the singles.

Man I’m not one to care about people partying, but I had no idea they have a “drinkers club” for their VIP experiences on tour where you get to have drinks with the band and hangout for an hour before the show. Definitely seems pretty odd to me but it is cool that fans can hang out with the band for an hour for only $50-$60. I assume with how they little they draw nowadays that the VIP experiences actually help them quite a bit. I’m still super disappointed that they are touring with Emarosa. What a pointless and gross tour.

With everything else going on I'm still kinda sad they aren't drawing bigger crowds. One average (not even bad) album shouldn't have stalled the momentum from Mother Nature/RFTS 10th anniversary that badly.

I try to go to every show of theirs near me, and the fact the crowds are so small makes we wonder, where is their core fans? Even bands that have "smaller" fan bases now compared to their heyday usually can maintain a small hard core fan base of 3-500 people? Especially if you were a Hopeless band and people loved your early albums so much. Wonder if it was Cody and the break that severed something or ..?

  10. There are countless people in this thread that considered themselves pretty big fans of the band, and I wouldn't go see them live. 1) Gestures wildly at everything recently, 2) They're not good live, 3) Their tour packages have been bad.

Yeah at best, in the last 5 years I probably only would've seen them if they supported somebody else I liked.

RFTS and MT are prime lawn mowing listens for me, I listen to those albums a ton but yeah, I wouldn't go to a show. I'm sure having a toddler and where I'm at at this point in my early 30s factor in, but I wonder if more people are in the same boat.

I saw them open for TBS when they first came back and it was really rough. I’ve only heard they’ve gotten worse. I saw them back during war paint and they were fine though.

they also were never THAT popular I feel like? Like the 3-500 room thing someone mentioned was their peak not what they’re maintaining

I just genuinely don’t like going to shows anymore unless it’s one of like…5 bands that are on my Mt Rushmore. Not worth it to me anymore.

Absolutely because this isn’t a band getting tons of new fans every time they drop an album so their fan base is continuously aging without getting anyone younger on board. A horrible model for longevity unless people care enough to make you a legacy act and like I said I don’t think their popularity ever took off enough for that to actually sustain them

Those first two comeback records were pretty great, they stand in their own way to build momentum.

their first tour after reuniting did really well and was sold out in a lot of cities and as it turns out it's pretty hard to maintain that on subsequent tours when you're not putting on a show worth seeing

    Things have changed.

It's one thing to be immature and unprofessional as a young band, but in your 30s it's sad as hell and embarrassing.

I saw them 3 times so far, probably that’ll be it. But things can change. All three were before the first break. One was in a middle school gym with The Morning Light and a few more Pittsburgh area bands, when all they had was the EP and I liked them. I saw them twice during the War Paint era in a small ass club over a bar that was packed both times and they were great.

I don’t think I’ve liked or knew any of their supporting bands in years and just never bothered.

Out of curiosity what makes some people say they aren't good live? Vocals or just sloppy?

I thought they sounded great at the Roxy last year

Last few times I have seen them they were just sloppy on stage, just ripping pulls for the Jack Daniels, yelling stuff about partying, I have no problem by them doing that but just not for me at this age. The show got better as songs went on. I saw them a few times during the War Paint era and that was the best i've seen them, from indian lakes opened for them who were solid.

I honestly have never seen them live. Combination of dates/tour locations that didn’t work on my end and hearing not such positive things from other fans.

Last time I saw them live was on the Mother Nature tour and thought they were pretty good live, which surprised me because AJ was absolutely hammered at the merch table (while openers were on), was shouting at them (in a playful way), and had a sign asking to buy adderall and did from my buddy.

I’ve got no desire to go see them on this or really any future tours.
