I don’t think this person or their work has anything to do with new music. They make animations for lots of different songs, independent of those artists. Based on the bunny and circus theme, it seems like they’re just doing one for Edging

We’ve had Travis Scott dominating the Billboard charts over the past month with Zach Bryan finally dethroning him this week with a streaming only release. We also know we have mega releases that can dominate in this streaming world for weeks (and also have day and date physical releases) from Olivia Rodrigo on 9/8 and Taylor Swift on 10/27 with Drake likely somewhere in between based on his recent announcement.

9/1 has nothing of note coming out. Blink could hit #1 on streaming alone with a surprise release on Friday and then release all physical media sometime in October as we’ve heard from multiple sources that was going to be the release month.

Here’s hoping they want to really surprise their fans even if it’s just to get their second #1 album together (and the third for Mark and Travis).

A rock band could never hit #1 on streaming alone in 2023, no chance

  5. A surprise drop to get everyone talking and sharing it all at the same time seems like it’d do better in terms of numbers, rather than a set release date a month or two out. Maybe it wouldn’t get them to #1, but that could be a good wave of buzz for them. But what do I know? Haha. Spoiler alert: not a lot.

  6. Once again, there's a reason major labels do things a certain way in the streaming era. They're not doing it for fun or on a whim, there's real metrics behind the number of songs released, giving them time on playlists to rack up streams, getting social media posts and people to pre-save and buy an album.

A surprise release means the album's done the day it's released in any major label's eyes.

  7. Yeah those are good points for sure.

Blink doesn't have the cajones to do a surprise release

I honestly don't know why people think a surprise release would go well for blink

So October it is! Wishful thinking shot down haha

But seriously, thanks for the industry insider information on release strategies in the streaming era. It’s not something I’m familiar with.

  11. Any idea is a good idea if it gets their music into my ears sooner :-)

  12. They could of course buck the trend (but based on what I heard I don’t expect it). The label thinks this album can do well and lead into another big tour, so I’d expect two or three singles leading into an October release.

If we get a Blink single next week - and I’m more confident than ever that we will - my head is going to explode from excitement which I guess means I’ll never even hear the whole album

Expectations are firmly in check now. That all sounds awesome, and I can connect certain aspects of this to Tom’s recent post now in a way that makes more sense than how I initially attempted to interpret it.

  20. I bought the Love 1&2 set that came with a dvd of the movie. I never watched the movie, and I hated the albums though. So really I should have just downloaded all that for free, but I’m a sucker for a set…
