Jimmy Eat World would be on the lower end but probably deserve to be on that list. Would Panic at the Disco count? They were huge for a while

Growing up, I remember the blissful feeling of enjoying the pop punk trinity -- Blink, MxPx, and Green Day -- with no felt need to compare which one is "better." They all ticked the right boxes in my teenage brain.

  7. In no particular order, I'd say these are probably the top 10:

    Green Day
    Blink
    Fall Out Boy
    MCR
    Taking Back Sunday
    Dashboard Confessional
    Paramore
    Sum 41
    Yellowcard
    NFG

    Lol I forgot Dashboard too.

I'd say Offspring def has to be on there though. Otherwise pretty nailed down

  9. I meannnnn... do they? I feel like Offspring was a couple years before these bands. I don't remember hearing them outside of Smash and Americana, and Americana came out in '98, while most of these other bands got popular in 2000/2001 onward.

I can't wait for an album announcement so I can unfollow this thread and hang out in the album thread instead

  14. For sure. But did their popularity really continue growing past maybe Conspiracy of One in 2000? I honestly don't remember hearing much by them after all those other early 2000s bands really started breaking. Maybe I'm wrong. If I am, I don't know who I'd take off that list I posted. Maybe TBS I guess? But everyone was all over TBS back then, so I just don't know!

Look, I have no idea how to explain it, but album threads are ALWAYS more bearable than band threads. I could find examples if I dug back, but for some reason on this website, the band threads are often endless loops of the same shit and annoyances but the album threads usually focus on the music / album, with less people in it

I agree that while SMASH and Americana was huge for Offspring they basically started declining in popularity when all those other bands were rising. They were absolutely part of my top 3 at the time with blink & Green Day but after I heard Conspiracy and it did little to nothing for me they fell off my radar almost entirely.

  17. I mean if we’re talking about the biggest bands you can’t have a band on there that sold literally 25x less albums than another.

(even their last album debuted 10 spots higher than TBS)

Every day I check this thread in case there’s blink news and I usually catch up having read no news but seen like 12 of the worst takes I’ve ever seen

The Offspring is a band I used to enjoy when I was younger but simply can't tolerate anymore. Haha. His goddamn shouty voice on every song just gets under my skin as an anxious adult.

Dashboard's an odd one. At one point they were headlining and selling out ampitheaters and arenas, had a number 1 album and a couple of Top 40 hits. But their legacy and fandom didn't really continue on like most other acts from the era.

For context, I once saw Dashboard headline (and sell out) a 19k ampitheater in like 2005. But when I saw them last year it was at a 500 cap room and tickets were still available day of show. Whereas acts like New Found Glory, Yellowcard, Sum 41 and Simple Plan all seem to have had a resurgence in the last 5 years. All four bands were regulars at this 2k ballroom in my city, but in the last few years they've all graduated to 3-4k venues and sell them out. Pretty sure all four of those names all have significant more streams/monthly listeners on Spotify too, despite Dashboard reaching the higher high in their career.

I love Dashboard, which is why I've always been so curious as to why they haven't been able to ride this recent scene wave like most others.

WYWTB was one of the first times I regretted buying an album because I liked the single
