If the conversation has moved on then apologies, but just for frame of reference: 6' 3" Muhammad Ali's prime fighting weight was right around 215 pounds. I think this Trump guy is full of shit or something.

 

They can just stop doing it and recognize that interest rates are not the primary driver of this inflation and that all they are doing is hammering the working class until they have nothing they can spend. Of course they know all of this but are doing it anyway so I wouldn’t say it’s tough for them, it is tough for us though!

 

Yeah, not to be too combative or anything here, but I don't buy that it is hard for them for one fucking second. It is not working to do the thing that they are ostensibly saying it is supposed to be doing, and all it is doing is hurting the people with the least amount of money in the first place who are already suffering.

He also clearly doesn't understand what the Fed's job is - it's responsible stewardship of US monetary policy, of which inflation is a single piece - and in addition to hurting the working class now he's harming the long-term economic outlook for the entire country.

 

Well he's not wrong that they're trying to fight inflation with their biggest tool to do so. But as Victor said, they're stuck in old economic dogma that the cause of the inflation is the money supply. In many past cases surely it was, but the money supply was def not the main driver of the inflation this time, which is why raising the interest rates like they have haven't really done what they wanted.

He is so lucky that's he's most likely running against trump again.

 

But inflation is going down, and the only thing they're actively doing is raising interest rates, so even though that's having only a small effect, if any, on lowering inflation they get to claim full credit and keep on raising.

The fact that there are poor and struggling people willingly sending their own money off to a guy who flies around in HIS OWN PRIVATE 757!!! is fucking mind boggling to me.

The sheer logistics of having your own private 757, and then people who struggle to pay their mortgage and/or buy food are like 'hey have some of my money good sir'

 

Have any US states implemented windfall taxes on their own to combat inflation? I know some EU countries have imposed some on oil and gas and Portugal applied a windfall tax to food distributors.
