Hell or Highwater exists a vinyl-rip only as far as I know…pretty sure that’s a great song too.

 

I always thought it was “There’s a clam out AND you’re whispering tonight” which kinda fit with the theme of the song.

Also, I don’t think Fin is like the best song of all time, but I think it such a strong lyrical output from Stephen. Idk if it was an interview or his tumblr, but it was really cool to hear him talk about all the different stories that inspired each verse.

 

I just learned today that Dismantle.Repair says "since your full attention was all mine" and not something like, "centriful attention was all mine"

Look I know centriful isn't a word, but I never thought about it enough to question it. I'm awful with lyrics and understanding what people are saying.

 

This Whisper and A Clamor slander needs to end. What the hell?

Look, I look at them... sometimes. Used to a lot more as a kid when I bought CDs. I'm just weird in that lyrics are usually the last thing I pay attention to, unless they're over the top bad. I'm paying way more attention to the melodies and instruments usually.

Lyrics are priority for me. The best first listen experience for me is listening with the best quality possible and having the lyrics in front of me.

 

Yeah and I think that's normal, and I'm the weird one. It's just never been what draws me to music. I've never liked a subpar album musically that got put over the top for me because of the lyrics.

I rarely do this, but I decided to throw on all my liked songs on shuffle, and it started with debut so I immediately switched to just listening to all of Cities lol

 

"A Whisper & a Clamor" was the first (and only) song I ever spent 3 hours straight listening to, the night before my 15th birthday back in 08. I'd just discovered my brother's CD of NTFP and fell in love so I bought Cities on iTunes. It's been my favorite album since. As time has gone on, I've surrendered to Dismantle. Repair being the best on the record, but no song will probably make me feel again the way A Whisper & a Clamor did that night.

I've also since realized I'm a big sucker for downbeat verses leading into unexpectedly uplifting choruses.

 

Cities is an incredible album. I remember buying it on release on the way to a family trip at Attitash mountain in 8th grade and playing it all week on my walkman. Fin is a masterpiece.
