I go from Dismantle to The Haunting (another perfect song) and almost never listen to (*Fin).

IMO they already nailed the sprawling, epic closer with Dance, Dance Christa Päffgen and (*Fin) doesn't even come close to that song.

There's an advance copy of Cities that has a shortened version of (*fin) and I kind of like that one...

Care to share, if you've got it? I'm not sure I have that version...

That's the one I have and it's perfect. I've only listened to the full 8 minute version a few times. I forget it exists.

I didn’t even know a shorter one existed

Yeah, that definitely sounds interesting. Kind of like the 5-minute version of JEW's "Goodbye Sky Harbor" they did for an iTunes Live Session.

I don't have the CD. There might be a rip of it on YouTube or spyki could maybe help if they have theirs still.

Not at home but there's this on YouTube that might be it. It's pretty much the same thing but without the final section. I feel like the climax at the end is the best part of the whole album and adding the final part kills it a little.

Mad respect for putting Blasé, Breaking, and Atonement on this list. Great, underrated songs.

I discovered the short version of fin a few years ago when a buddy told me he had never heard the longer one. It really threw me lol

It is funny how many times there are longer/shorter versions of songs and people in either camp don't realize it. I had that with mwy In a Sweater Poorly Knit, although they are both about the same length, just a different ending I think.

I still prefer the long version of Fin. Plus I vaguely remember an interview where Stephen said he just sang whatever he felt/made up on the spot to end the song, that just makes it that much better.

i think that was also the approach for IJSW (doesn't it stand for I Just Sang Whatever?).

Really? I always wondered what that stood for. I always thought it was some sort of Briggs personality thing
