i have no idea what i'm doing in this game but i am liking it a lot. unfortunately i freed a goblin and promptly lost her after fleeing from a battle (i guess goblins aren't allowed at camp?). hope you're still out there somewhere being a big old bloodthirsty jerk, sazza.

act 3 isnt as bad as people say it is. yeah technically its kind of a mess ive been running into weird bugs and glitches that havent been a thing up to this point, but i very much enjoy the gameplay here of running around a bustling city and talking to people and exploring and uncovering secret plots and the like. i saw some complaints that the main quest gets pushed aside for a bit but honestly during the first two acts i kept thinking how this game was missing that big city fantasy games always have and was hoping actually getting to baldur's gate would give you the freedom to explore the city itself and not just throw you into more dungeon crawling. reminds me of how novigrad in the witcher 3 is pretty much its own quest hub that a good chunk of the story takes place in.

keep at it, from the end of act 2 to a good bit into act 3 the battles have started to get easier and easier as i have so many tools at my disposal across party members that i very rarely die or have to restart battles for better outcomes. im running rogue, cleric, barbarian, and druid

I'm still in Act 1 because I play games very slowly and this isn't the best post-work game for me during the week

Just ran into a frog that fucked my shit up.

Just entered act 2 at about 34 hours, and some very intriguing plot lines are going on with all the characters. I've ignored Astarion for a bit now, but both Lae'zel, Wyll and Gale have made some progress on their personal quests. I've faced more tough decisions than i can count, and i already now love the vibe of the shadowlands and what that may possibly hold for us all, especially shadowheart.

I took the elevator out of the forge to go to act 2, but i did go into the mountain pass for the creche. Crazy how you could skip that whole part of the story with all the weight it holds.

The voice acting is amazing. Every single interaction is unique and bubbling with personality. I love this game. Taking a mental health day tomorrow to knock out a big chunk of this act.

EDIT: no hooking up yet which im not sure what ive done wrong, but ive got a great bunch of friends.

Also semi spoiler, but let volo do his thing that he offers in camp. Great scene and ending. Only downside is he runs off after and theres now no one to trade with in camp which is annoying

If it helps, the best combat tips i have are positioning, dont do 'silly' things like not disengage before moving and give enemies free hits, and examine all enemies for weaknesses and resistances so you dont waste spell slots for zero damage. And use the environment and special arrows, potions, scrolls.

Thank you! I definitely forgot about potions & scrolls. RPGs like this always overwhelm me and this one also has a lot to keep track of but something about it has been hooking me.

I didn’t realize you could check for enemy weaknesses, heh.

Hearing the difficulty ramps up in Act 2 is scary since I have 2 encounters I still can't do in Act 1. Hobgolbin in the goblin camp and the Gethanki ceche folks

I thought the 2nd one you mentioned was pretty easy but there are multiple ways to go about it, the way I went allowed me to fight a few at a time in sections without being overwhelmed. I also was lvl 6.

Im not ashmed to admit i loaded an earlier save and went a different way to avoid those creatures that are allergic to magic and just freak tf out when you do anything near them (including heal). I wiped constantly then gave up on whatever i would have found going in that direction.

Yea, its such a massive game that its hard to go slow knowing its already daunting as is, but right clicking on enemies at the start of a fight and doing examine is super, super helpful even if it slows down the pace.

I summoned my ogre friends while I was in the goblin camp and they bailed after one turn, leaving me and my crew to die. Was this a bug?

the breadth of the city is something else. every few steps theres something to find that could easily turn into a 45 minute diversion

Still on act 2 and finding it a little confusing to know what order to do things. Vague so no spoilers, but i went back a save, as i was worried completing something at the temple would lock me out of some things at the towers due to the pop up saying that, but now theres things happening at the towers that make me think the temple was the better option first. Either way ive made too much progress to go back so i am where i am for now, but this act is difficult as far as decision making goes.

when i do go back to the temple, i guess ill kill balthazar and let the nightsong go assuming his death severs her connection to ketherick? I know that may piss off shadowheart but im trying not to kill unless the plot demands it.

I think so? One other thing about the ogres, if you have npc's fighting for you, the ogres go after them to. I called them to help me save some people and they turned on them too. They only spare your party.

Sure, ive made my choice and i dont have a convenient save to go back to, and i doubt ill do a replay anytime soon with starfield coming. My basic understanding is act 1 areas are blocked off after entering the shadow realm area and playing out the nightsong encounter, and quests like the tiefling rescue in the tower cant be continued. In going to the tower first, i met Ketheric, and he displayed his immortality when he kept having the goblins strike him. Assuming you kill Balthazar first, that cut scene has to look a lot different. My plan is basically to find the tieflings and fast travel back to Shar temple to do that (unless other things happen at the tower). I already met the potion brewer who wanted to be a vampire, and now im looking for the kitchen for the meat smell the ogre was going on about.

Nvm I can’t answer any of that I haven’t seen half the shit you’re talking about. Either way it’ll be clearly sign posted when you’re at the point of no return.

I finished shadowheart’s entire quest and holy fuck that final fight was tough but I was able to do it after a few tries. Some of the end game fights are pretty tricky even on easy but you’ve got such a huge set of tools to use you can easily go back and retry with success. I tend to save mid battle if I feel I’ve got the upper hand so I don’t have to start all the way over.

finished jaheira's quest. probably only gonna worry about finishing out the quests of people i keep in my party at all times but it seems i'll inadvertently do a few of the others just because but im not worried about them much. still got a good amount of side stuff to do before moving forward to the end (ive been putting off the iron throne because everything ive read about it seems like a nightmare to do with the best outcome) but i wouldnt be surprised if i finish up in the next few days

Based on this, I'm glad I reloaded the village encounter to make sure that she didn't die for me, minutes after meeting her.
