This one had me crying

 

Goddamn I love this show

 

“That’s my murder-suicide vacuum”

 

Was not expecting for that episode to hit as hard as it did. John Wilson just has a gift for going to these things that I think a lot of shows would make a mockery of and is able to get people to let their guard down, I think simply because he’s not judging them and they’re probably not used to that.

 

This episode also works because I genuinely think John is more excited by that vacuum competition than any sporting event.

 

Thank God for John Wilson

 

Definitely a lot of themes of dads and acceptance. The Mets guy took his dad’s love of the team and accepted it (and made it his personality). John rejected his dad’s rigid ideas of sexuality and had a long fling with his friend. Lots of the vacuum guys were ashamed of their love of collecting and hid it, but the murder-suicide guy(who was a second away from saying “No homo” when John asked when he came out of the closet)’s dad accepted him for who he was when he told him and loved him anyway.

 

Fuck I wanna go buy a vacuum cleaner now

 

Definitely going to have to think about the themes on this one.

Daily Beast did a thinkpiece saying this entire episode was a metaphor for queerness and coming out. I can definitely see how you'd get to that conclusion as there was some clear queer themes in it (Wilson admitting to a queer relationship he had in middle school), but I don't know of that was 100% John Wilson's intention.

Like somebody said above John is so great because it would be easy to mock the vacuum collectors but he doesn’t at all and just shows the strong bond they all have over a common interest. I’m honestly jealous of them.

I loved the part where the hotel housekeeping staff was getting into the vacuum convention.

 

A girl I know's 4 year old son is obsessed with vacuum cleaners, so much so that they bought him his own vacuum cleaner for Christmas. Like he refuses to leave the vacuum aisle when they go shopping. They don't really get it, but they indulge it to make the kid happy.

They need to see this episode.

 

I havent watched an ep yet this season. I’m excited to binge

 

Vacuums rule. Great episode but I was disappointed that there no was mention of Miele, the best vacuum brand.

 

Sounds like you need to join the VCCC and rectify this.

 

I got a cheap Black & Decker. It sucks. Need to upgrade soon.

What I took away from the episode was how we find our places of belonging, as random as it is, and how it impacts our life. The initial premise was how I learned how to small tank with people, there’s all kinds of people who’ll talk sports with you. Eventually, I learned how to apply that to other situations in life and it’s helped me out a lot. People deserve to have a place of belonging, even if it’s weird.
