Hey, sooner than I expected. What the heck is Loial doing with the Seanchan and Ishamael?

 

Pictures look great. I am starting to get really excited about Season 2! Let's hope Amazon gives them some of the same support $$$$$$$$ that they throw so freely at LOTR: Rings of Power.

 

Yea, I think season 1 definitely suffered from a visual stand point at times. but a lot of it was design vs a lack of money (imo). I hate how they did the channeling and to have such a big battle in the 1st episode and not get it right, was such a bummer. But I felt the costumes, and the cityscapes and the overall feel of the world was pretty well done and well made.

Plot wise, I think it had some extremely strong moments that makes me believe that they can really make season 2 something special but part of me worries that a) too many established 'fans' were negative and b) it didn't really get much internet buzz in general so I don't know how many new people watched. A lot of people I introduced it to and spoke to about it, felt it too CW and young adult.

Either way - We have a date! and it's pretty soon! and we know we're getting a 3rd season! So more to be excited about than negative.

Wonder when the true marketing will start and how hard they're going to go with it.

 

It was extremely popular globally. It was the most watched show worldwide most of it's run (granted, going against a covid-depleted landscape). Had something like 70 million unique viewers each week iirc.

I love some of your thoughts, especially the last one, ha. A few questions for you:
- What exactly about Jordan's writing style did you not like and is the bloat you described, his general descriptiveness, or plot tangents? I still dislike the 50-80 page prologues at the beginning of each book that make them really hard to dive into, but I personally think the series is what it is because he painted such a picture and didn't leave much to the imagination. I think most people reading it, picture it all the same as he painted it in such detail. A lot of fantasy ends up with people bickering about what the world actually looks like and in the WOT, it's all spelled out so vividly, we all are picturing the same world.
- Interesting about the slog - people say it's not as bad on a binge, but I definitely felt it, even being able to go from one to the next, to the next. I think I really disliked 7 as well, and I didn't feel 10 was the worst out of 8-10.
- Any negatives about how Brandon handled ending it? I personally felt he reduced some of the characters to caricatures a little bit but he did well all things considered.

 

I got an update on my news feed that a batch of new Season 2 images released today - but when I clicked on it, it was one of those annoying "news stories" where I couldn't actually see the gallery or even how to find a way to see the gallery.....

The Seanchan costume design is exquisite. Had no idea what I thought it should look like, but yeah, this is it.

I am going to keep expectations low, and thats good, as that trailer didnt make me fight lifting them. I have hope theyll work out the rough edges of season 1, but theres also part of me that just doesnt think this crew is it, but we'll see! September is a beyond stacked month of entertainment!

 

Meh. I wish the adaptation didn’t have the tone of a CW show.

My biggest reservations about Season 1 were the choice to go with this tone you are describing here, the extremely rushed pacing, and the fact that it really felt to me like they ran out of time and/or money making Season 1. Compare the battle at Tarwin's Gap to any of the battles in Prime's LOTR: Rings of Power show, particularly that opening battle with the eagles and stuff that literally made me gasp out loud.

The tone is what it is and its not going to change. I much prefer the innocent kids from the books discovering the wider world vs. Rand and Egwene randomly f---ing on the floor in the middle of the common room at The Winespring Inn because nobody else was in the room for two minutes, but I realize I am not showrunner here and I just gotta roll with it. Amazon shorting them on money and time sucks but we all know Amazon sucks and I'm willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt on that. I'm hoping Season 2 was supported better and that the pacing allows the story to breathe a little more. Fingers crossed...

 

I’m just hoping for a solid Mat replacement performance without his storyline weirdly ending this season

 

I'm on the 7th book and Mat's storyline is easily my favorite. I'd love to see who he becomes in the books happen on the show.

 

Not loving Elayne and Aviendha's looks if I'm being honest. Pretty far from my head canon.

 

I was curious if they’d include this scene at all with the pacing issue, so this bodes well. Spoiler, ish, if you’ve not read Great Hunt.
