  1. His writing or himself as a person? Because idk the way you worded it made it sound personal haha. Been wary of hearing about authors ever since I found out about Latour

    A bit of both?

He’s on average a fairly mediocre writer whose most beloved works get by on art more than scripting (though he certainly has great moments here and there). Lots of people have joked over the years that Tim Sale carried him, which is somewhat true. Don’t think many people get excited specifically at seeing the name “Loeb” on a book.

And, he also, uh… handled the Marvel Netflix stuff in a messy enough way to have a section on his Wikipedia page labeled “racial controversy,” lol.

Saga still doing what Saga does best I see. But still, damn, was the last person I expected.
EDIT: decided to spoil tag that, even tho I purposely made it vague, just in case. From the latest issue.

Can’t really find the motivation to read anything new.

So, I’m re-reading New X-Men. Goodness, would I love to own an original Frank Quitely piece from this.

Thank goodness she’s still an Inhuman and still has stretchy powers, lol. Occupying both spaces is going to be so ripe for storytelling (and finally give me the “Inhumans interact with Krakoa” wish I’ve had for so long).

The title “Ms Marvel: The New Mutant” has such a fun double meaning. And, love this (presumably temporary) costume from the brilliant Jamie McKelvie, which combines two iconic looks wonderfully.

Sabir Pirzada’s Dark Web: Ms Marvel mini was overstuffed and had terrible pacing, but it also had some real good moments. And, he’s also doing surprisingly strong work with Cult of Carnage: Misery, a miniseries about Liz Allan as a girl boss with goo. Excited to see what he does collaborating with Iman Vellani, who seems to genuinely appreciate & understand the comics medium.

  8. I finally read Nimona, then watched it, and both were really good!

  9. I think I may have been misinformed, last I heard there was a batfam webcomic that got a cease and desist, but now I'm seeing it published by dc in tpb at b&n?

Google Search indicates it was a planned live-action show inspired by the webcomic that got canned.

  11. Ohhhh okay yeah that makes sense, totally forgot about that. I think the problem was it was gonna be fan made whereas the comic is officially dc

  12. went to my comic shop yesterday and saw a bunch of Knight Terrors issues, looks interesting but i don't really buy floppies. apparently they'll be compiled into five hc volumes, one with the main storyline and the others covering four characters each. the only one I'd really want tho is harley/ivy/punchline/zatanna. also, on another note, b&n has like dark knights metal, death metal, and tales from the dark multiverse, and those, er, dark reimaginings look cool too but it just... it's a lot. i'm not super into big crossover events, and besides, my backlog of things on my shelf i still need to get to is getting pretty darn extensive as it is. but uhhh yeah, if you're keeping up and have read through these, whaddaya think?

I'm old enough to remember when floppies meant disks.

  14. i didn't know the terms for floppies and trade paperback until very recently

    Floppies rule.

Some comics people hate the term “floppies,” which I find funny. Sometimes comics people can be so obsessed with “legitimacy,” lol.

  16. i mean idk mayyybe hypothetically if i had all the money and space in the world i'd have boxes for floppies next to the shelves for my trades. as of now, though, it's just easier to collect (and display) the latter

Oh, I’m not saying you or anyone else needs to get into that often impractical format, lol. I just saw an opportunity mentioned my floppy love and took it.

If you ever decided to start collecting some, though, and also go on the lookout for another shelf at the same time. Those shelves that IKEA has with the square shelves, I think they call ‘em Kallax? They’re very sturdy and hold heavy books well without bowing. And, you can also story a comics short box with floppies in one of the squares pretty easily.

I've honestly never heard the term "floppies" applied to comic books until this thread, today.

From what I understand, it came into vogue about 20 yrs ago, to differentiate them from “graphic novels” (which had existed for decades at that point but had recently become a much more significant part of comics publication).

It’s the only term I know for it (besides issue, i guess)…but also I learned a lot of what I know from this thread

    Twenty years, huh. Wild.

I guess I don't really talk about comics with people a lot cause I mainly just read what's happening and look at scans on Scans Daily, and don't actually buy comics.

I've never seen the term before though anywhere I frequent, and that's not me doubting you, that's just me being weirded out that I can be a fan of something for as long as I have and not know something that apparently has been around for a long time. It gives me a very weird feeling.

Floppies is definitely a thing. Has been since I’ve been reading comics (roughly 21 years).

To be fair, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s less of a thing now. I do tend to recall it peeking around like 2010-2013 when trades and graphic novels were showing up in Barnes and Nobles and what not.

There was this sense that floppies might just die out and comic shops as well.

Seems like digital kinda overtook the lot. So the floppies v trade debate is obselete.

So… you don’t actually read comics, then?
