Good guy, but a bad dude

Way worse for me personally. Feels like decades of punk activism advocated by the band are lessened by it. The more I think about it the more I hope someone punches his teeth in

It's gotta be close to impossible to sum up the words for the other band members. Especially Chris 2 who called Justin his brother every single show etc. I don't expect a statement for a minute.

Don't forget Pat who started the band with Justin... Plus they were all in on the DIY ethos (#2 ran socials, Pat did the money, seem to remember Chris Head did something important too)

Kind of hoping the other three carry on together in some capacity, but I imagine when something like this is your life for close to 30 years it is not easy to think about next steps especially when the news is as sudden as this.

None of which should take away from the harms that Justin has committed and which I hope any statement does not gloss over.

Assuming that the rest of the band didn’t know about this and actually believe in what they say they stand for, I’m sure that any statement that they make will not gloss over the harm.

I still can't really believe it.

As so many in the thread have said, the message of the band has really shaped a lot of my worldview and pain points with society. But words are not actions, and the actions in this case are indefensible and horrible.

I reiterate again that I deeply hope the woman affected by Justin's actions is getting/has gotten the help she needs, and is not being bombarded by any demented fans who are upset at her for something she didn't do and never asked for. That misdirected rage is so common, especially a scene that can be as toxic as this one, and it's a thing that I think/hope the rest of the band members should be crystal clear in whatever statement they choose, even if so many people now will call them all hypocritical by association.

I still believe deeply in the topics this band sang about, and the message they spoke of often at their shows. I believed them, and I feel taken for a fool at the moment for thinking they were practicing as they preached. Shame on me for believing without doubt.

Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

Punk and hardcore has always been bigger than one person, even if that one person had a big and vocal impact over several decades. That will continue to be the case. One person's gross actions does not diminish or lesson the topics or stances the band took and talked about. Even if it's hard to get there completely right now, the rest of the band did a lot of good as well.

I don't expect a statement anytime soon. I think there are probably a lot of different talks happening, along with each member and their families processing everything. I think the public will get something eventually, but I don't think they are concerned with some sort of timeline and they shouldn't be, quite honestly.

  11. Justin is a spineless fucking coward lol, no wonder the other members refused to remain associates with him after this

Sincere question that doesn’t relate to this specific scenario - in this day and age in the slim-to-none chance an allegation is “categorically false,” what is the alleged abuser’s best immediate course of action? In your opinion obviously

  13. Try to get to the bottom of the accusations as best they can instead of this hand-waving bullshit we've seen hundreds of times at this stage. Actually make an effort to clear the air for once. I don't know, maybe I expect too much.

I’m torn with what I expect. I expect that they better sure as shit be reaching out to the victim/accuser to address 1:1 - but also would totally empathize with the victim asking them to shut up and not talk about it anymore to the world. I guess when it comes down to it, there’s no good answer. When you combine situations where people are deeply hurting and ruined and someone who is seeing their “integrity” about to forever be irredeemable, with fucking twitter/social media, you’ll lose almost every time.

Out of interest does the band's statement exist anywhere online or has it exclusively gone out to press? I realise that I'm not sure if Chris Chris and Pat have their own social media accounts.

of course justin would deny them. every single artist in the scene denies allegations. its a fucking joke. no one can ever take ownership/responsibility for their fuck ups

unsurprising but still upsetting all around.

also wtf at this part from Justin's statement: "nor have I ever been approached by a woman after a sexual encounter and been told I had in any way acted without her consent or violated her in any way."

Kind of weird he posted both statements too? I dunno. Something feels odd about that

The anti flag statement is pretty much what I expected. Theres nothing they can do. This specific band can't exist with this type of allegation and this type of stink around them.

    They're just like....fuck.... well that's that.

Do we give the band credit? I mean they didjt fight it, they didnt deny or make some sort of bs donation, they immediately disbanded. You guys are more pitchforky than me but is this satisfactory?

Well I see people always talking about poor or bad responses, so I wanted to see if this passed the test. So when people point out the bad ones, you can use a good one as a blue print

  23. Bane

    The spiciest meme

I mean, they ARE denying it. Both statements point to them saying it's false. So uhhhhh yea they disbanded and aren't going the All Time Low route or anything but it still is a bit like trying to have a last word and they decided with that last word to say the victim is lying so I would not say it is the best response no.

Huh? Interpreting "we personally haven't seen anything" as "the victim is lying" is quite a leap. It came across to me very matter-of-fact.

Band members blindsided and seemingly uninvolved in things like this shouldn't have to blatantly say "we believe the victim" in their statement. Breaking up before even getting to the statement and then ending it in "we wish healing to all survivors" does that for them.

I think Anti-Flag’s statement was appropriate and about as good as you can expect. I can imagine the accusations caught them all off guard and would never have expected someone they were so close to and basically consider family to do something like that. It’s a very tough situation and hard to even imagine how they feel.
