Borys Kit, writing at The Hollywood Reporter, on Guy Ritchie directing a live-action remake of Aladdin.

Guy Ritchie, the stylistic director behind the Robert Downey Jr-starring Sherlock Holmes movies, is in negotiations to helm Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 1992 animated classic Aladdin.

Dan Lin, who was a producer on the Holmes movies for Warner Bros., is producing what Disney touts will be an ambitious and non-traditional take on Aladdin via his Lin Pictures banner. Jonathan Eirich will executive produce the movie and oversee it for Lin Pictures.

  2. As much as I've loved all the live-action remakes (post-Maleficent), this has me worried...or at least questioning.

Aladdin was my favorite Disney movie growing up. This was mainly due to the story line, Robbin Williams, and, of course, the princess who was cool enough to own/ride a tiger.

    Don't f*ck this up, guys.

Haha I'm actually reading the original fable of Aladdin right now for a world lit class. The animated Disney version took pretty big liberties, so I'm interested to see if this is closer to the original fable.

    Aaaachem!

It's supposed to have the original music, so I doubt it.

Ugh. No thanks. Guy hasn't made good movie since "Snatch," even though "Man From UNCLE" showed promise. What a weird choice.

Really not digging this movement to remake animated classics.

Jungle Book was alright.. Hoping they don't botch Beauty and the Beast. But then again Emma is in it..

I wonder which white actors they'll choose to play the leads.

Huh, I didn't know I wanted this until now. Ritchie's style would lend well to the opening chase scene at least. Jafar too.

I knew I forgot one. I think that's the only one of his I've never seen.

Man from U.N.C.L.E. was definitely a return to form for Ritchie. I forgot how much I enjoy Henry Cavill's performances when he's not scowling for 2 hours and 26 minutes.

The Man From UNCLE was fine, but it wasn't even the third best spy movie from last year

This is honestly the only one I can really see as being a live action version

  17. Oh if you haven't seen The Jungle Book, it's really great. I also loved Cinderella and liked Pete's Dragon. I'm worried about The Lion King, but apparently it's going to be less "live action" and more photo-realistic CGI.

Oh I forgot about The Jungle Book...that was actually a lot better than I expected. I haven't seen the new Pete's Dragon and Cinderella was alright. Yeah I'm worried about the Lion King too as well as Beauty and the Beast but we'll have to see

This is one of the ones I've been waiting for. Excited to see a live action adaption of this.
