Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

Epitaph in theory would have paid Island/Def Jam (assuming there was something to pay off), who we know paid Victory an arm and a leg (possibly even a first born) to get out of their deal. I just don't see what label situation they could still be in. I'd be really surprised if Brett is handling or handled Thursday poorly.

I think it just feels underwhelming because it is really just bands already playing those albums on tour plus Walter’s bands. And then you add in some that have been or will be playing albums this year that aren’t a part of it. Not much that moved the dial for me here.

This makes me excited for QOTSA. Saturdsy overlaps are going to be a pain

Am I the only one that expected Ride "Going Blank Again" full album? They've been playing it on tour the whole year.

(And hey, new here and very excited!)

Also, another question: based on your expertise, what would you say the chances of a Cure/Gaslight Anthem clash?
Sadly almost all fake clashfinders have them clashing on Sunday evening... Cure spot is obvious but I'm hopeful Gaslight will play the main stages before them (Rather than closing off a smaller stage). Those are probably my two favorite acts of the festival. So what are the odds either way?

It is really hard to say because Riot Fest doesn’t follow a set pattern like Lollapalooza and others. How many bands that play at the end of the night is very variable. My personal guess is that The Used will close out a stage and Gorilla Biscuits will close out the Rebel stage while the Cure play. But that is just a guess that isn’t any better than anybody else’s.

I think The Cure / Gaslight conflicting is foregone conclusion, personally, BUT The Cure is probably going to play for a couple hours, so you could definitely split them.

Thanks, but the Cure are absolutely number 1 priority and I don't plan on missing a single second of their set. So let's just hope Gaslight is somehow before them, otherwise i'll catch them some other time.

i think the probability of the cure doing a 3 hour set, (which is the norm for them on this tour so i dont see why it would be shortened for riot) is going to put them in conflicts with way more bands than a normal 90 min/ 2 hour headliner set.

    Give what you can.

Definitely thought that was an obvious album play as well. Not super disappointed about it though because I imagine their set will still lean heavily on it, and I've never seen them live so I'd be happy to hear some Nowhere songs mixed in as well.

I searched "Cure live 2023" on youtube.. and most of their shows on this tour seem to be about 2:30-2:45 with 2 encore breaks.. they played 2:15 in 2014 at Riot (I think the current longest set in the history of the festival) - so I highly doubt they play 3 hours (2:30 my best guess)

I still think 1 or 2 bands get added to Sunday (ie TBS, possibly Alk3) - so I have no clue what the schedule or stage breakdowns will be like, overlaps are almost a guarantee though depending on who you want to see

Yeah, Cure festival sets are typically 2 hours, maybe 2:15. I think that's what we'll get.
We'll be interesting to see if they'll still play 5-6 new unreleased songs, or tone it down for the festival. Either way it will be glorious.

Yeah, agreed. I've seen Ride live once (back in 2015) and the set was very Nowhere heavy, so getting "Going Blank" in full would have been cool. But Nowhere is the better album, and the show will be great anyway. And with all the clashes on Sunday I don't know if i'll even be able to watch them.

In 2014, the Cure had a 2 hour and 45 minute set. I could see them doing anywhere from 2-3 hours, though, TBH.

The only way Gaslight doesn't conflict in some way, shape, or form with them is if they close out Roots... Which is a possibility still, I think. I could see the Mars Volta wanting to play after the sun sets which wouldn't happen if they were on Roots just ahead of the Cure.

    It's a toss-up for me as to whether there's a Cure/TGA conflict.

I didn't go in 2014, but from what I could find on Google said 7:45-10:00 - which is 2:15

Yeah, you're right. My math was wrong. LOL

Conflicts were intense that year. It was a hustle but... I saw 3/4 of New Found Glory, a few Cure songs, the last Primus song, 3/4 of Weezer's set... And then the last 2-3 Cure songs. I was exhausted. But it was totally worth it.

Yeah that Sunday looks like one of the best festival schedules ever. Menzingers at 11:35 - insane

God I would’ve had conflicts galore that whole weekend. I think I would’ve cried upon finding out The Cure was on at the same time as Primus and Weezer doing Blue Album

i cant believe on that friday they had a Rise stage with only 3 bands on it the whole day, haha

edit -...looked closer and 3 other stages had only 4bands each that day as well, bizarre.

That year had a few obvious/strange looking schedule gaps. Friday from 6:15-7 on the Rock stage, first thing on Saturday at Rebel, and early in the day on Sunday across the board (except for Menzingers with the death slot of 11:45am LOL).

That's the year the layout was a nightmare of nightmares too. Partially because of flooding, partially because things were just way too far apart, and partially because of carnival rides at the Rebel/Rise stage causing things to be very crowded later in the day. I had to watch Weezer squeezed between a Flaming Lips fan who had just dropped acid and the barricade of a tilt-a-whirl.
