Player's Log: Wingspan

In that weird post-Zelda vaccuum where I'm not super ready to jump into another big thing (although I have Grandia 2 and another Atelier game ready to go) so I figured I'd try the digital version of this award winning boardgame. I bought it on sale for like $10 and fell asleep during the tutorial and never went back to it. However I've always liked the look of the boardgame and my best friend was obsessed with it. Well the other night we had a game night and a guy brought Wingspan over and both my brother in law and I ended up loving it. Super relaxing game, and the digital version is even more so.

Guess I'm gonna be a birdwatcher now

 

I've been into birdwatching lately, have been doing so much work in my backyard to bring in different birds. My dad loved it and since he died I picked it up as a grieving mechanism and all that. Maybe I'll pick up Wingspan

 

I didn't even know the ASUS handheld came out, probably not a good sign for its prospects lol

I feel reluctant to buy for Switch due to its aging hardware. kind of want a next-gen version to be announced already. I know it probably doesn't really matter, but it's definitely making me hesitant to buy anything right now (even though anything purchased rn will likely work on a future device -- it's not a coherent issue for me lol).

prefer deck when buying handheld games, if possible.

 

if you haven't had a Switch before it's a great time to buy one. insane catalogue.

I bought my switch lite in October and I play it more than any other gaming device I own

 

I bought an OLED in March.

I do a lot of dumb shit any given day. That wasn't one of those times.

 

Yeah I bought a PS5 in December and it's just sitting gathering dust until I finish TOTK or Spider-Man 2 comes out haha. I just prefer the types of games that exist on Switch and love using it

 

I will say since buying my ps5 it has dominated my gaming

If we lived in alternate universe where every PS game was named Returnal, I would play it nonstop

 

I can't play new games on PC, mostly because the graphics menu becomes a game in itself and a boring one at that. I spend like an hour in that damn thing just trying to get the settings correct based on my specs. It's annoying. Also, too many PC ports are trash. So I mostly just play games on Xbox these days. I use my PC for cRPGs and old games that I can't get on console. I was gifted a PS5 over a year ago and I rarely use it. Modern Playstation exclusives aren't my cup of tea, especially the first party ones.

I play my games on PC and don't fiddle with the graphics settings cause I'm a pleb.

 

My processor is from 2012 and my GPU is from 2016 and I was able to run TLOU, after about a month's worth of patches, and certainly not at the highest settings, but it still worked. Of course, this was for a PC port of a remaster of a game that came out around the same time as my processor... idk what my point is, I actually don't know much about building a PC, I didn't build mine. Getting the bestest graphics out of the newest games will certainly require a regular investment, whether on PC or console, but half the time I'm playing stuff like Slay the Spire and Dead Cells, so. Saying stuff like the next Nintendo gen is more than a year away isn't all that useful to me imo. You can afford a new handheld and wanna play TotK? Get the Switch.

The story in Yakuza 0 was really good…but I wasn’t a fan of the gameplay.

I started Doom 2016. I’m not a big fan of shooters, but I thought I’d try it and…I’m all about Doom now! Demons being from another dimension dubbed Hell is amazing. The backtracking and collectibles and upgrades is similar to Jedi Fallen Order. The story is nonsense, but I love it…reminds me of Resident Evil-level crazy. I just wish there were cut scenes.

 

Doom 2016 is legit

 

How’s Eternal? That might be next.

 

I like it but 2016 is better. The final boss in Eternal is bonkers.
