I’m about ready to put this comfortably at number 3 in my Jason Isbell rankings. If he cut out “Volunteer” through “White Beretta” it’d be an overall stronger record though.

 

“Volunteer” is actually one of my favorites

Only thing I might cut is "Save The World" and that still has a cool guitar solo

 

Sorry bud we got a wedding the weekend before I am told. Actually we have a wedding both weekends but my wife agreed we can skip the second one haha

 

i am very much still in my "new favorite song every time i listen" phase with this album and all week i've been playing Vestavia Hills but today 'Miles' is hitting like it never did before. sheesh.

"Volunteer" & "Vestavia Hills" are absolutely both highlights for me. I cannot imagine losing either one, nevermind both. The weakest songs for me would probably be "White Beretta" & "Save The World" but they are both great songs and I don't think this album needs any trimming at all.

 

every song except strawberry woman is good

 

I'd actually say White Beretta is top 3 for me right now (along with King of Oklahoma and Cast Iron Skillet). I could do without This Ain't It and Middle of the Morning, and V Hills isn't my fave but is growing on me. But cool there's stuff here for everyone!

If you’d cut This Ain’t It we are from different fucking planets I’m sorry

 

The melody and music of White Beretta and Save the World are both a little Isbell paint by numbers for me, but lyrics and other stuff saves them and still makes them solid. Everything else is great-to-astounding

 

it sounds like Jason is putting on a different character’s voice / accent in that song and it throws it off for me haha

 

some unhinged takes in here lately, we gotta reset

 

He recorded the vocal take live while playing guitar so his breathing isn’t perfect for sure but

 

I feel like This Ain't It hasn't clicked for me, I don't dislike it at all but it's not what I'm here for

Save The World just feels like a worse Be Afraid

 

It’s okay, I’m the only one in here who’s seen him close a set with a barnburner ten minute version of This Ain’t It, I get it :)

 

We can all agree the album is amazing as a whole and he’s one of the best live performers around!

 

phew okay maybe steve does like music after all, that's a relief

 

We’ll keep our eyes on him for now

 

I would simply not cut any songs from this album.

 

"This Ain't It," though, that one might be my favorite. I love love love what's going on with the band on those last two songs especially.
