I accumulated a bunch of Kindle point the last 6 months so I decided to get a bunch of Audiobooks for books that are being adapted into limited series later this year.

Currently listening to Shogun, then I am going to do Manhunt, then Masters of the Air.

 

Cormac McCarthy died

My other favorite author (Stephen King) broke the news...this one really hurts

 

Shit. That hurts. Loved his work.

When we lived in El Paso my parents would drive the 30 or so minutes to Las Cruces, NM every weekday for years to take my sister to gymnastics. My mom told me how she would always see a man there dressed in a mechanic's clothes with the nametag 'Mac' on it there to watch his kid do gymnastics as well. She didn't put it together until they actually ended up talking a few times.

 

Second to none among my favorite authors who have been alive since I learned to read. He will be missed and I might be his age by the time I’m finished digesting his body of work.

 

Where'd you see it could be his last? He's probably my favorite author.

 

Terribly sad day. RIP

 

He mentions it in this interview. He didn't say for sure but also said he's never felt this way before and he is not under contract to write another book for the first time in a long time.

Damn, RIP to a literary giant. I’ve only read The Road, which I didn’t love but could appreciate it from a distance. His voice is so singular that, without any sort of context, at any time I could easily pinpoint if a sentence was written by him. I always wanted to get into his other works, especially No Country and Blood Meridian. All the more reason to now, I guess.

 

My all-time favorite, and I was just knocked out by The Passenger and Stella Maris last year. Teared up today thinking about how these are the last words McCarthy published in his lifetime:

I think our time is up.
I know. Hold my hand.
Yes. I want you to.
All right. Why?
Because that’s what people do when they’re waiting for the end of something.

I’ve had Blood Meridian next up in my queue. Kind of a brutal way to remember someone though haha, he certainly never pulled any punches

 

Started audio for No Country for Old Men last night and it was cool to see how faithful the movie was in certain spots.

 

Finished The Devil Takes You Home and thought it was alright. Not the biggest horror fan but a friend recommended it to me and thought I would give it a shot. The main character was certainly compelling enough, especially his struggle against poverty, but the author really sacrificed plot for exposition. By the end, I felt a little cheated to have 250+ pages of buildup and have, maybe, ten pages dedicated to the climactic battle.

I think I'm going to diving into the Slough House book series after watching the first two seasons of the Apple TV show.

 

about to wrap up Washington by by Ron Chernow. Absolutely fantastic book. Aside from being an incredible biography, it's suddenly one of my favorite books regardless of genre. I almost feel like I know the guy lol. That's the mark of a good biography I suppose.

I know you're reading in order so it will be a little bit until you get to him, but Chernow's biography of Ulysses S. Grant is quite good as well.

 

Strongly disliked my first Grady Hendrix novel, which was not a surprise to me but still somewhat of a shame since I thought the opening pages were rather fun.

Loving Satantango after an admittedly rough start that saw me put it down for a few days to read the former. It really did get less challenging after the first two or three chapters, and now all I want to do is keep reading. I believe someone here posted about this a few months ago, so many thanks for bringing it to my attention!

 

Yeah Grady Hendrix is usually a miss for me. Like I try to like his books because they get so hyped and are usually a unique and fun concept, but only My Best Friend’s Exorcism has stuck well with me

 

Which Grady Hendrix book?

Yeah I’ve read several and enjoy them but they just kinda bore me at a certain point that I pretty much just force myself to finish but ultimately I’m glad I do. They mostly end up being a 3-3.5/5

 

Good! Because I already bought that one haha. Been building up the collection as I go, I think I have 8 biographies so far

 

Took me a year but I finished Dracula. I'm glad I read it, but is it wild to say that it could have really used an editor?
