I wonder why, maybe they're remixing something?

My first thought is probably a stupid one but I know Taylor Swift announced her Speak Now Taylor's Version was dropping July 7th just recently. They might be trying to push the release away from that even though they are obviously different genres etc.

I thought the same honestly, and fair enough. Gonna be basically no other air in the room on that date haha

Nice of Yellowcard to give artists like Taylor who don't get enough of the limelight some clear air that weekend. What gentlemen, looking out for the smaller songwriters in the business.

Every song on the new Yellowcard EP (due out at the end of July) makes me emotional. I never thought I’d hear new music from this band again. It makes me think back to the first time someone told me to check out Yellowcard. They sent me One for the Kids and I burned it to a CD and took it out for a drive around my hometown. Windows down, music loud, the perfect introduction to a band that would stay with me for the next two decades. I’d play the Underdog EP on my way to my first summer job (Borders bookstore). The soundtrack to Summers and first loves. And basically, everyone knows my history and love for Ocean Avenue. Hanging out in Portland with the band, dropping them off at a local bar (I wasn’t 21 yet), racing home to see them debut on Pepsi Smash, and knowing right then and there they were about to explode. Seeing their rise, seeing them release album after album that just hit me perfectly right when I needed it, and having so many moments of my life soundtracked with their music has made them one of the defining artists of my lifetime. They’re an extremely special band to me. Their music has helped me in times when I needed someone to say what I couldn’t or to pick me up when I was down — a comforting constant. And they knocked this EP right out of the park. “Three Minutes More” gives me massive Paper Walls energy, “Hiding in the Light” has one of those “oh god damn” choruses, and “The Places We’ll Go” is like having a drink with an old friend and falling back into all your old routines. I found myself listening, smiling, and by the end, thinking, “Yep, that’s why you guys are the best.” Other bands play this style of music. I write about most of them. But out of all the bands playing in this space, Yellowcard brings something out of me that’s almost indescribable. They make me happy. They lift my spirit. They are the antidote to any bad day I may have—an electric bolt to my nervous system. The EP’s incredible. Five for five. A guaranteed summer staple. I’m sitting here listening to it now, and Ryan’s belting out the chorus to “Honest from the Jump,” re-using a refrain from his solo album, and I have goddamn chills. According to Last.fm, this is play number twelve of the album. Twelfth time hearing this song, and the hair on my arm is standing on end. Yeah, let’s go.

    First impressions.

I love the energy on this EP. Brings out the best from Paper Walls and WYTTSY but still sounds fresh.

Edit - Posted this before reaching The Places We'll Go. Yeesh. What a song.

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Best compliment that I can give to this EP is that even after 1 listen, it feels like songs we've had for years. As if I already experienced parts of my life with these songs sound tracking them. Honest from the Jump is one of the wildest songs they've ever done. and my god, the solo in Hiding in the Light

So is there like really low screaming or something on the 2nd Places We'll Go chorus? It sounds like either whispering, soft screaming, or super distorted vocals. I can't make it out.

Not to sound like I'm ranking or anything, but the title track is easily my least favorite from the ep. Love this whole thing so much though.

I have been trying to figure this out too. I think it may be the way that Chris sang backup vocals, almost like a whisper?

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

for some reason I wrote this band off for years but I recently went back through their discog and realised I was dumb for that. great band and this EP rips, really glad I gave em another shot

I like this a lot. It’s by no means a bad song, I dig it, but I actually think the the title track might be the weakest on here for me

A little over a year ago, I came home from 3 weeks of storm chasing and my girlfriend had set up an entire fake concert venue in our house to replicate a YC concert for my birthday thinking that we’d never see them together. Now we’re listening to the new EP and have seen 3 shows on this tour so far, and are ready to see 3 more. Life is full of twists, turns and unknowns, but this band has been a constant for me since 2002 and remain just the same today.

I get the same feeling now listening to a new release from them as I did in 2002. Excitement, enjoyment, appreciation.

    This whole thing rips.

This shoutout on the physical copy is incredible, especially for Alyssa who was a YC fan for decades. Just amazing shit.

  25. Just hit play and jeez Three Minutes More gives me the same feeling The Sound Of You And Me did back in 2011. What an explosive way to signal "I'm back". A banger!
