My boy is a bit decrepit at the moment and we had to take him to the vet, who thought it would be hilarious if she put him in a little cone for a minute.

 

Meant to share this sweet thing here a long time ago, but here is my blind cat 'Suki'. She was born with some kind of eye issue, and turned up at my wife's animal hospital, and we fostered her till she had her eyes removed (she was already blind, and they needed to come out due to infection risk) and until she was spayed. Well, fast forward, and she's our no eyed cat now, and is probably about a year old having been with us for 8 months or so?. Until you get close, you'd never know she's blind, as she moves around with full confidence. She knows the layout of our place, loves to pounce at us, and on the other cats and the dog, and will play with a ball for hours (a crinkle ball or one with a bell in it). Only occasionally does she get stuck somewhere or lose her toy and get frustrated.

At first, she was crated at night to give her a rhythm, so she knew when to calm down (in a big dog crate with a litter box), but after a trip away where that wasn't possible, she's just just a normal cat roaming free. Other than the occasional crazy night, she's figured out when sleep time is, and curls up on the bed with us.

The only 'problems' are that she's a food fiend so she has to eat in the crate, as she will scarf food down not knowing how much there is, or where the next meal is coming from, and she's impossible to keep off of things like counters. However, she is trained really well to go into a little basket we put on the counter, and she sits in that rather than walks around. If she gets out, she'll just be coaxed back into the basket with a treat.

Anyway - Just sharing this story as I had no idea how capable blind cats were and how fulfilling their life's could be. (An older cat that went blind may struggle, but little Suki has never known any different).

She is. I laugh at her because she looks like she's 'evolved' to being blind. Super long whiskers and ears that are always up and searching, which is why I think she was never not blind. But yea, she does playful cat stuff, lap cat stuff, you really wouldn't know she wasn't sighted till you see her face.

We worry Marvin is reaching the end of his little mouse life, but here he is enjoying his new liquid diet of Harrison’s Recovery.

His name is Marvin, but the liquid diet stuff he’s on is called Harrison’s Recovery, haha. We were worried he wasn’t going to like it because he’s been rejecting a lot of food recently but he cannot get enough of this stuff.

Poor guy is on like four different medications.

 

Fuck, I'm sorry I misread that. I'm glad he's enjoying the liquid diet at least! Thinking of you.

I'm so, so sorry. RIP Marvin. He looks like he was a great friend.

 

Appreciate it, and yes, he really was. It’s hard to overstate how important he was to our lives, and he meant a lot to some of our friends as well. He was truly a magical creature who touched many hearts.

 

RIP Marvin. I've never had a pet mouse, but I had several pet hamsters growing up. I always wished their lifespans were longer.

 

I’ve been talking about this in the NFL thread but gonna post here. A few days ago my fiancé was coming home from work and saw this little dog in a yard near ours and she was clearly hurt. No collar, skinny, dirty. Fiancé rang the doorbell but got no answer and decided to take the dog to the local animal welfare shelter. Shelter is overwhelmed and basically says “ok great we’ll take her and mark her as a stray”

I checked Nextdoor and turns out someone had posted a picture of this dog 2 days prior, asking if it belonged to anyone. I decided to also post on Nextdoor and in a local Facebook group asking if anyone could identify or claim the dog. Stopped by the shelter after I got off of work and they told me that she has a broken pelvis, and that unless someone claims her or we find a rescue to take her in, she’d likely be put down. We were not given the option to take her ourselves, it HAD to be a rescue, even if we wanted to foster/adopt her.

So my fiancé and I contacted about 20 different rescues around the OKC metro, and FINALLY got one that said they’d help us out today. We picked her up from the shelter, took her to an emergency vet clinic who gave her some more pain meds. Gotta take her to a specialist this week to see if she’s going to require surgery, but in the meantime, we’ve got her home with us and hopefully, all will be well from here. We’re calling her Debbie. She’s like, 8 pounds.

Took him to the groomers on Friday and they asked how old he was (13), surprised at how active/thin he is for a pug this age. But then he comes home and does nothing but sleep for 23 hours out of the day.

 

Kylo got into a fight with another dog today. It was terrifying. He has two puncture wounds, one in his side, the other on his neck along with a swollen eye. Luckily neither puncture was deep enough to require anything serious and there was no damage to his eye. He’s just resting with anti-inflammatory and antibiotic treatments.

Thankfully the other dog is also okay. We both ended up at the same vet. He had a small cut on the ear. He was also a sweet boy. I’m still replaying it in my head trying to figure out where the signs of aggression were. They seemed to be playing normally but then they just snapped on one another.

 

Damn, I'm sorry, glad both of your dogs are alright. I know the feeling. My boy got attacked a while back. So scary when it happens.
