I'll give episode 2 a shot, but yeah the first episode of Class Of '09 was pretty bad.

Update: Watched episode 2. This is aggressively bad. Im out.

 

Been watch NYPD Blue from the beginning to fall asleep at night, that show is pretty damn good.

 

That sucks about “Class of 09.” It has a great cast. I won’t miss it having ads on pretty much every podcast in existence.

 

Some of the dialogue in Class Of 09, specifically with Brian Tyree Henry’s character, is god awful

Yeah its weird I was thinking at one point " I know this guy is a great actor from Atlanta, why is he so fucking awful in this?" It has to be the material they gave him.

 

I don’t think I’ve seen a bad Bryan Tyree Henry performance so it has to be the direction.

 

Honestly, and maybe I'll get raked through the coals for this, but super high def new TV's make everything look so cheap and like a set. Every friend I've got that has splurged on the newest and biggest TV and tries to show me a show I've already seen, I feel like it just looks worse. Obviously, much higher definition and actors look like you've never seen them before, but it makes it look like a behind the scenes special and that they're clearly on a set. I watched an episode of TLOU with a friend (the episode in Jackson), and everything stood out as a costume, and a prop and a set, and I never get that feeling when watching it on my TV (that isn't even that old, maybe 6 years).

 

I think it’s a combination of the direction and material. His character is so unnatural compared to the others. Maybe something will be revealed down the line that explains some of it as the character’s personality. But at this point it’s either poor material/direction or it was miscast. He’s a great actor, he shouldn’t feel like he’s swimming upstream with Kate Mara

 

The fact that class of 09 marketing was so vague was a red flag

Interested to see if Sweeney can hold her own as a star with an actual good director. I hate “Euphoria,” but think she’s okay on it and she was good in “The White Lotus.”

 

She was also great in Sharp Objects.

 

I totally forgot she was in “Sharp Objects.”
