    She haunts the roads

Gotta admit, I'm sorta perplexed by the love that "What Appears" is getting.

Seems like a pretty unremarkable song to me. It's no "Savior's Robes" or "The Hurt is Gone."

I kind of feel the opposite.. How could you not like, What Appears?

Guess again. Thanks for the support, what an amazing thing to have fans who travel like that. You're awesome. The funny thing about that question is we have never once written a song with it being a closer or opener in mind. We've always just chosen whichever song seems to fit as those after they're done.

I remember that show vividly because we had some fans request for us to play View From Heaven for their good friend who just lost a friend in a car accident. They were front row with him and when we started playing it he absolutely lost it, and it totally wrecked me. I had to play the song turned around.

Unfortunately we have pretty minimal footage of it. I was planning on shooting a ton during the process and then I ended up being more busy and stressed than I ever imagined because of how much work it was and I didn't get a chance to at all. About order, we record everything all at once. We work on pieces of each song each day, we never just do one song start to finish.

I remember that show as well - the only time I've ever played in Maine. Bummed you can't make it to one of the final shows!

I'm really curious how y'all decided which new songs to play?

Could not disagree more. It's one of the biggest sounding songs they've ever done IMO, I absolutely love it.

Ryan – Any chance at all of some sort of recording/documentation of the final tour? Whether it be a live recording, some kind of film, anything. I know it's a long shot, but I figured I'd ask. Would love to have a quality recording of one of these final shows for the records.

...finally I make a new account on this reincarnation of absolutepunk....

It's so cool that you're here Mendez! I have too many questions to ask but maybe I'll decide on a few and post sometime after this.

So I've been letting the new album brew with me and ohh man it has been great! I've been jamming the album hard for a whole week B-)
With all this talk about Lift a Sail..I just have to say that people need to give it a chance with open ears and take it in for what it is. Don't start the comparison game. It's a disservice. Just listen! If I had to pick my favorite from that album it's "Fragile and Dear" that song is a gem. To me the sound that they were going for in LaS was perfectly accomplished in that song. Then there's Transmission, Illuminate, Deepest Well, Sail, Msk, Mountain, and California. Excellent songs.

Now on to this great final album. I will speak of my Top 3 Favorites.
[Before I begin, I need to say that that the FYE release of this new album is a must have.
I really like the acoustic version of The Hurt is Gone. I don't like the original one but oh man it makes more sense to me in acoustic form!.]

~ First off, "What Appears"..omg I LOVE IT! It's enormous, fantastic! I love the words and the melody, how the guitar creeps up in the intro, that middle/bridge part was so unexpected to me, I literally screamed in joy when it came up on my first listen. Then I was expecting the song to end with the chorus like "i am on my way, i am on my waaaaaa ayyyyyyy" and a boom or sort of fade out...but nope it went back to the verse real big. Well done Mendez & Key, well done. Obviously this is my favorite song off the album. [I also love the the acoustic version of this song in the FYE release.]

[Second favorite is Empty Street BUT I've been loving that wonderful song and listening to it relentlessly since it's Big If demo release through a crappy quality YouTube audio rip only cause I couldn't get it any other way. It's been a dream for it to be have a proper release, I am thankful that it finally happened..thanks guys.]

~ So with respect to this album in reality my 2nd favorite definitely goes to "A Place We Set Afire". Beautiful song...that chorus made me smile. It's got that good ol Yellowcard charm that is found in every album. Although I think the song would've fit better later on in the album. That's just nit picking though.

~ And finally, my 3rd favorite which is probably expected, is "Fields & Fences". What a brilliant song, immediately I knew that somehow the song was gonna rise up and get bigger. I couldn't wait, but the ride to the ending was so enjoyable..Tenesssseeeeeee. That drop to the mandolin is simple but beyond words, so unexpected, quiet, and tender...my goodness. In that moment I just think of how much Yellowcard music has influenced me and has been a faithful companion to my ears everyday since 2007. Then with the ending string part I remember when I heard "Hollywood Died" for the first time and being completely captivated by the sweeping orchestral ending of the song and wanting to hear more of this combination I had never heard before then going to Borders the next day and bought Ocean Avenue, Lights and Sounds, and Paper Walls. Now here again is a wonderful string section closing off the album, but this time its just strings. It's the end. This is it. No more of this combination in a band anymore. My favorite band will once again not be active anymore.

    Closing Thoughts:

I am thankful and grateful that I was there to enjoy my favorite band when they came back for a second round in 2010. Boy, I still remember when I found out. It was a glorious day. I spent three years telling my friends that my favorite band would come some time before I graduate high school...then it actually happened! I was extremely pumped for WYTTSY. I'd post papers around my school about it and when it finally released, I bought seven copies and gave it to friends and family. That's not counting my own physical copy, vinyl and iTunes download. I got to see my favorite band nine times..as openers, headliners, and warped. I got to meet them. I was front row for the absolute ultimate Yellowcard concert (The Ocean Avenue Acoustic Tour). OA front to back followed by a incredible full band set list. I almost passed out, who wouldn't after hearing Paper Walls and The Takedown live...that night was absolutely fantastic. I took a nap in my car cause I couldn't drive. I will always remember that show.
I won't be able to make it to the final tour but I'm okay with it. In a way I don't want to be there. I can't do it.

I will always be so jealous that I couldn't see that show. OA in full and then an encore of those plus Be The Young, Surface of the Sun, Awakening and Rough Landing. What a dream. The opening of Paper Walls is perfect to come back out to encore wise. I remember seeing on youtube them ending with Lights and Sounds and during the drum roll into the final chorus they transitioned into the bridge of OA. Seemed perfect.

  13. Fuck, my date just got postponed. Ryan got laryngitis. Totally get it, just sucks to find out literally the day before the show haha, I've been so hyped about it for the last couple of days!

Yeah, that sucks. Was talking about it in the other thread. Having laryngitis is the absolute worst, and i'm sure he (and the rest of the band) feels like shit for having to cancel the shows too.

That being said, it's a decision that had to be made. You can't risk the whole tour. Hope he gets better soon and that the rest of the guys aren't too bummed about it.

Listened to the album today after letting it rest for a few days... it is still really, really good. Such an incredible send off. Every song rips and adds a ton to the overall package.

It's such a well put together album. So glad this wasn't like Lowborn and disappointing

  17. On the upside... I'd say since these two shows won't be made up until after the tour is over, it might be likely that I see the last Yellowcard show ever. That'd be pretty nuts. Gotta stay positive somehow! :-)

So funny to read this, I think Lowborn is a far better record. But I just enjoy that band more overall, so whatever

I enjoy Anberlin more but Lowborn is such a dull record. This may not be my favorite YC album but I would never call it bad.

Said I'm okay, but I know how to lie.

After having it two weeks now, I'd give it an 8/10.
Only song I don't necessarily need on this album is "I Am a Wrecking Ball".
It really is an album for fans and I think it will even get better in the cold season.

P.S.: Didn't love it at first, but somehow everytime I get to "F&F's" now I could almost cry, haha.

I'm with you on Field's and Fences. I honestly pick to avoid it more often than not because 1) I know it'll get me emotional and 2) I want to put off accepting that this is it for as long as possible haha

I think A Place We Set Afire is becoming my 2nd favorite after What Appears. The lyrics get me every time.
