I just got to the part in Lord of Chaos where Egwene gets raised Amyrlin. Biggest shock so far of this book. Obviously she's being used but to what end? Ahhhh

    Just finished Lord of Chaos

that final battle is brutal. Mazrim Taim is bad vibes. A necessary evil? Idk

Damn, Rand is going to go ice cold on the Aes Sedai, Egwene Amyrlin or not, huh

I feel like Nyneave has improved a lot (not entirely) but now Faile is the most annoying/toxic character

Liking these posts sight unseen because you've left me in the dust. I'm only on Chapter 8 of The Fires of Heaven.

    Journey before destination.

Yes, I know it’s not the right book series.

So I (re)started the series in 2018 and I've just gotten through book 6... I think going forward I need to read one book in the series every 3 months so I can finish in mid-2025 lol

I think 7-8-9-10 are all like half the length of 4-5-6, iirc.

I was relieved to pick up a copy of A Crown Of Swords at the bookstore and see that it's nearly 200 pages shorter than Lord of Chaos

Finished The Shadow Rising finally. Something I haven't commented on is I love the different combinations of characters in each book. The Nynaeve/Elayne/Juilin/Thom/Domon grouping was sooo funny at times. Nynaeve works with any character really. Speaking of... her battle with a Forsaken really shows they're not much more powerful than our good guys, they just have more knowledge, right?! I think they live in infamy because they sold their souls to the Dark One, but they're Aes Sedai just like the rest.

Nynaeve vs Moghedien is a highlight of the next few books, imo.

It should be noted, though, that when it comes to all the male forsaken, Rand is absolutely stronger than all but two who are practically equal. Logain and Taim were/are also both that powerful.

But the women forsaken are mostly still stronger than their modern counterparts. Nynaeve is the strongest non-forsaken woman on the continent right now. Elayne and Egwene a bit beneath her. Throw all the female Forsaken between E&E and N except that Lanfear is stronger than Nynaeve, too. Moiraine, Siuan, Elaida, etc. all used to be the strongest, but they’re beneath E&E.

So it comes down to knowledge and evil morals a lot of the time. Thousands of years of knowledge and experience. There is a bit of ide explored as they encounter more weavers (Aiel wise ones, windfinders, Seanchan, etc) that they’ve accidentally made themselves weaker by killing all the male channelers and holding strictly to the Tower standards, but I wouldn’t call it too big of a spoiler to mention now.

Not a spoiler. I've definitely picked up on what you're saying in the last part.

To add to that, it's definitely made me excited in each book how clearly it seems that Nynaeve, Elayne, and Egwene are never going to take their oaths in the White Tower. They get to lie and do so much more without that holding them back. I don't know if the Tower will ever be restored to what it was (what would be the point?) but it seems moot now in this current world.

I am so excited for you and the others currently in this section of the story to keep reading. Reminds me of why I love this series so much.

I am flying through this one. I am blown away by what just happened. BIRGITTE!!! I'm loving this journey that Nynaeve is on to be more humble (ever since Egwene scolded her). Haha. She is really feeling down right now so it's a new side to her character.

Omg omg omg... it's the morning of the battle against Couladin. Amazing moment with Mat laying out battle strategy in the previous chapter. I'm so excited!!! Question, does this battle have a name? I can't believe the number of Aiel. This is making me think of the Battle of the Pellenor Fields in LOTR with everyone going to save Minas Tirith.

Just finished Fires of Heaven. I really thought the book was just going to end after the Battle with the Shaido and with Elayne and Nynaeve finally reaching Salidar. But instead soooo much crazy stuff happens after that. I'm a little miffed right now that the book ended on a cliffhanger with Nynaeve. I'm pretty sure that when she wakes up, she's going to find Moghedien's body still under the effects of forkroot which would be awesome. Anyways, the best part was Lanfear's explosion of anger. Rand sucks for not killing her. Thankfully I know Moiraine isn't really dead since I read a spoiler about her and Thom which hasn't happened.

Hahahahahaha I'm reading Lord of Chaos, and this scene was so funny. The Maidens telling Rand he doesn't have a sense of humor, so he gets mad and tells a joke, but they don't get it.

I just finished The Fires of Heaven about five minutes ago. Holy crap. I am pretty sure this is the book where I would give up on the series as a teenager, but I don't know what the hell I was thinking back then. Such an incredible ending, and just a phenomenal book overall. I was in utter shock with what happened on the quay in Cairhien, and I definitely got misty-eyed when Rand and Lan were talking afterwards. So many monumental things happen in this book.

It is a minor detail really in the grand scheme of things, but I just absolutely LOVED that Nynaeve was the one who found a way to help Rand when he was battling Rahvin. The Wisdom battling her own demons and finding a way to help the boy from Edmond's Field just resonated so much with me. I was more heartbroken than I expected with Moraine, and for some reason the feelings really came crashing home when Rand and Lan were speaking just before Lan left.

Yeah, I really love how close Rand and Lan got by the end of that book. Now we're both on Lord of Chaos. But you're rereading right and already read all of them?
