Having read almost every king book…I haven’t read storm of the century…worth it?

I actually haven't read it, I'm just watching the mini-series. Was it published as a book, or was it just the screenplay?

It's the screenplay, not a novel. Can be misleading. They released it in formats that are uniform with his novels.

I've been kind of soft on Wizard and Glass so far because of how it jumps backward story-wise, but we're learning all about Maerlyn's Rainbow now and I'm back on board.

It’s my fav in the series. I was also disappointed when I realized it was a timeline jump, but it is amazing

I was about to say its definitely one of my favorite Dark Towers books, then I did a quick list i my head (7,5,3,2,4,6,1) and realized it's actually on the back half, but that's just how damn good the series is.

Wizard & Glass is definitely my favorite of the series. I just love it so much.

  14. I was behind on so many books so I dug into those first but I’m going to start The Drawing of the Three soon. I think sometimes when doing a series, it can seem so daunting when you’re way behind. Plus I’m the type of person to bounce between books/genres. But I really want to dig into this Dark Tower series, it’s long overdue.

  15. I have a question about the Dark Tower series actually. Is the best way to read them the first time just going 1-7 and then reading other related stories after or is it worth bouncing between related stories?

  16. I read The Wind Through the Keyhole at its spot in the story and I thought it was fine that way.

I'm also gearing up to start the Dark Tower series at some point this year, but is there anything I should read beforehand to prime me?

I can't think of anything that should be read before. It would be nice to have the Stand before book 4. Maybe Eyes of the Dragon too. But you're pretty good with the extended reading list until before you read book 5. Then it will be time to talk. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to read the Talisman at some point so you're ready for when you need to read Black House, which is one of the most important of the non series books.

And that's if you really want to go down the rabbit hole. I hadn't read all the other inter-related works when I was going through dark tower and I still thoroughly enjoyed the series, even if I didn't catch all the references at the time.

  20. I asked because someone suggested I read Eyes of the Dragon, The Talisman, and Black House in between DT2 and DT3 and someone else told me it’s not worth it, so I was torn, haha… especially because The Talisman and Black House are big and I don’t want to feel like I wasted a lot of time on them if they’re not that vital.

I’ve read The Stand, Salems Lot and a variety of other king books. I am currently on dark tower 5. So far I don’t think any additional books are required unless you are worried about spoilers. King seems to explain the pieces you need to know.

I don’t know the backstory of every existing character introduced to the MCU or Star Wars TV shows. It’s kinda similar to that so far, but I do understand it gets more bonkers in the last couple books.

That’s way too early to read Black House. It all depends on what you want out of the series…if you are enjoying it and want more, than yes of course you should read more, I can say that it makes the experience a million times better. Also Black House is one of King’s best books. If you just want to read 7 books and be done with it you very easily can and won’t be confused. Basically don’t read them because you feel you have to, read them if you want to.

and since it hasn’t been mentioned yet Insomnia along with Black House and Salem’s Lot are the bare bones essentials

  23. I have read a decent amount of King books so my thought is that I’m going to read them regardless. I just want to read them where I think I’ll enjoy them the most. I’m the type of person who can’t wait too long to finish a story because I want to know what happens and I feel like I’ll get antsy if I’m on like book 4 and I really want to keep going, haha. But I’m also open to there being a more enjoyable way to experience the story. I guess if all comes down to personal preference.

I’m almost done with book 2 (I have about 100 pages left). I guess I’ll decide what I want to do after that. I’ve always wanted to read The Stand anyway so I may do that next regardless.

My King reading experience began with IT, followed by the Dark Tower series. So I really didn’t have the prior reading knowledge of the connected stories.

I read the series straight through, but I do think I would have had a bigger appreciation when we meet certain characters or enter certain places. However, it was still fun reading those connected novels after the fact and being like: “oh hey!”

You can do either way really comes down to your personal preference!
