I've got a story like that! In 2015, my parents got me four tickets to see Weird Al for my birthday at a casino 10 minutes from my apartment. I took a few friends from high school who were nearby, the show was awesome, the seats were great, and we had an awesome time. Two of my friends ducked out a little early, and as my other friend and I were leaving, my Dad's friend who helped us get the really close tickets came up and we talked for a minute. After a little bit, he asked if we wanted to meet Weird Al because they had meet and greet passes and had to take off, and of course, we said yes. We ran to the meet and greet line, waited around, and we slowly went through. I shook Al's hand and said it was an honor to meet him, and he said, "Likewise!" We took the picture, I said thanks, and now I have a picture with Weird Al while I was wearing a World is a Beautiful Place shirt, which is still very funny to me.

I won a trip to Austin for the iHeart Radio Country Festival a couple years back on a text in to win. That was fun.

Anyways... Um... so this is a thing on base in May (free for anyone to come).

in 2004 i won a radio contest where you entered by submitting the one question you would ask Dashboard Confessional, if you had the chance to interview them, i submitted one, and was told i won a few days later. so when they were in town, i got to go into the radio station, sit in on a private 3 song concert by dashboard in the studio (he said he was playing vindicated for the first time in front of an audience, no idea if that was true or not) with 2 or 3 other winners, then got to ask chris a question, and then free tickets to the show that night (which had thrice and get up kids opening) it was rad , and its funny because the record label didnt like my submitted question so they gave me a different, much lamer, one to ask, written by them on a notecard

my winning question: since becoming a more popular band, have you had any unusual or even scary interactions with old school fans thinking youve 'sold out'?

the question they gave me: what would you be doing if you werent playing music? (answer: elementary school teacher)

I've only won one pair of tickets from a radio station. Tuesday before Memorial Day weekend in '00. It was an early release day from school and just as I got home and turned on the radio they were giving away tickets to see Blink-182 with Bad Religion and Fenix TX. No trivia, just had to be the right caller... And it was me! Hah.

I wasn't planning on going to the show because my parents had said I had "seen them enough" and I didn't have the money myself so... That was a nice treat! But also? I got to meet them before the show. So that was cool.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

The only radio contest I’ve won was winning Smashing Pumpkins tickets from KROQ in 2019 when I was caller 20 at the cue. They never gave me the tickets. Even though I saw the Pumpkins back in November, I’m still salty about it

I look at the stations website on monday to see what they’re giving away that week. If something catches my eye, I tune in at the designated time, try my luck, and immediately tune out lol

I work for a small cluster of locally owned (not corporate) stations and we always get calls for giveaways. Whether it’s for a car wash gift card or concert tickets. The last couple weeks we’ve been giving away passes to the Tortuga Festival in Fort Lauderdale and the entries have been massive.

I havent won on the radio per se. But last year Q101 in Chicago were organizing a Weezer concert and I send a tweet to Lauren, one of their most popular radio host, saying "today is my birthday, can I get a Weezer ticket?" (It was actually my bday, no cap there). I was shocled when she DM me and asked for my email and sent me 2 tickets.

I don’t even know the Cleveland stations anymore, it’s been honestly decades since I’ve listened to the radio. Also didn’t help that the stations I listened to as a kid are now something completely different, so I wouldn’t even know which stations play music I’d be interested in.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, everything is terrible.

the only time I've actively seeked out a radio contest was in 2010 when the station was giving away meet & greets for Muse

every other time I've won tickets has been through socials in some capacity
