Yeah, Erykah Badu is unfortunately pretty ignorant. She’s done and said a LOT of controversial things, always claiming her words are misconstrued. I think she’s often misunderstood as “woke” bc of the genre and her discography is pretty much flawless, but she is somewhat problematic. As a Jewish person, it’s tough to reconcile my love for her. Mama’s Gun in particular is near and dear to my heart. I choose to believe her ignorance is from having celebrity-brain and not being informed, rather than outright discrimination and hatred.

 

As a coincidence Madlib also has an album in the works with her

They were together for a while but it looks like they split in 2009 and she has a new partner.
