They may be taking the same approach as Deftones did when Sergio left, which was not a good look. Those guys never ended up saying anything in response to Sergio's claims because they didn't want to turn it into a shit storm between the two parties, but the band definitely came out looking worse for it.

if the tour is strike 1, ousting of a member is strike 2, strike 3 is definitely that they are featured on a nothing, nowhere song out tomorrow hahaha.

    Kidding, but not.

My perception of them, even before these latest missteps, is that they never seem to be having a good time as a band. There's just a weird darkness to them that I can't wrap my head around. This may not be the case at all...just an observation.

You're not alone. I've definitely gotten some weird vibes from them as well, especially when they opened up about how there was still conflict between Spencer and Aaron going into writing Voyeurist. Between that, selling NFTs with the vinyl repress of Disambiguation, the tour with Falling In Reverse, and now kicking out James, I'm just really turned off by this band now.

in mormonism, they call that "when the light leaves your eyes." Mormons have an extra special light that shines from their eyes because they have the 100% truth. But you leave that? Oh buddy, bye bye light - everyone can tell.

im still in the 'erase me is total dogshit' camp and voyeurist was a step in the right direction but lacks any real staying power and just feels lacking in what made their previous material so good. there was this weird commercialization i felt coming from the band throughout those two album cycles and the NFT thing just sort of confirms for me what i already suspected: heart and soul aren't driving them anymore, it's money. they can say whatever they want in interviews but its pretty clear to me what this is especially after the James thing now. couldn't be more obvious.

Nah because he killed it on Low Teens, don’t want to mess up that album.

Completely agreed and I even thought it was odd when they reunited back in 2015 or 2016, after they were gone for just two years, to repress and tour on TOCS and DTGL. I understand it was the ten-year anniversaries for those albums, but we all know by now much monetarily such tours can be for bands. And, like you said, their sound has become so watered down and commercialized that it's clear it's just cash grab after cash grab opportunities for them now.

He did an awesome job on Low Teens, but I loveeeee what he did on Disambiguation, particularly with how he utilized space. Obviously, Underoath and Every Time I Die do different styles of metalcore so Underoath's style leant more space to their songs so that's worth mentioning.

I agree, though, that I wish this band kept going with Daniel. Of course, the big bucks were with Aaron, as we know.

His role as the secret G on a single album for legacy bands in the genre is pretty rad. Comes in, fucks shit up, and dips out with one amazing record. Would love to see him pop up on other records whether he tours and officially joins bands or not.

I wish he was still active in bands. According to his website, he hasn't been involved in any musical project since Every Time I Die. Looks like he's largely been focusing on directing/editing video and other visual content.

Good for him though. Obviously spent so many years touring relentlessly with Norma Jean, Underoath, and Every Time I Die so I'm glad his video/visual work seems to have been working out for him.

Daniel is definitely the drummer with the most outstanding resume in the genre ;d

I've never listened to more than one Norma Jean song, but his work in both Underoath and Every Time I Die is bananas. Listening to Disambiguation always leaves me inspired

My read on Underoath over the last few years is not cash-grabbing / sell-outs. It seems like they are a lot older and trying to be strategic about maintaining a vision for the band while also having freedom. If they were only in it for the bug bucks I feel like they would have stayed on Fearless and kept working with producers that put out hits. ( Feldman / Matt Squire) They were on radio, doing huge direct support tours, and capped that era with their first headlining arena show. ( I was there and that show was legendary)

Making music in their own DIY studio without a producer does not seem like a cash grab to me. It is really lame they are on tour with Ronnie Radke full stop. Would not go to that show if you paid me. They have been doing direct support for giant bands since they came back though. I like the one-headliner tour, one direct support tour thing they have doing. I am confused about dropping a band member who has been around for 20 years. Seems odd with no further info. I trust they will address it sooner rather than later. Also, he's still listed as a member on their Instagram bio.

I am not a huge fan of the last record and the new single personally, but I do think they still have top-tier albums ahead of them. I have been a fan since Chasing Safety and personally do not think the last year or so of their career warrants panning them and trashing their character. Hard to come up with another band from this genre/era of music that has been so progressive in their risk-taking on new music over the last 20 years, and honest about their struggle to be unified in their vision as a group. Also worth noting they have been doing some really rad shit for fans recently. This tour with a live Q&A and playing new demos for the die-hards is so sick, the Digital Ghost stream months before the album release was unreal, and the Observatory shows were by far the raddest lockdown release from any band.

Well, his performance definitely borrows a lot from those NJ times as well, though he did step up his game in my opinion for Disambiguation, though more within the sound production aspect etc., Norma also had amazing parts. Just now I've read he also did an album with Colour Revolt - The Cradle - I love that album! Speechless now hahh!

I haven't gotten around to listening to The Cradle yet so I'll have to check that out soon! Thought that band's first album was alright so maybe The Cradle will be the one to do it for me because I've always read/heard good things about Colour Revolt

Try it out, it's a really good album, I still go back to it a lot (maybe even the most out of their discography), the sound is not that fierce on it anymore, but it's just so well-crafted. "Everything Is The Same" is one of my fav mellow songs of that era.
