tbf this seems to be agreed upon posturing to me…Any Dem coulda filibustered it but didn’t, and looking at those names, Senate Dems and White House probably coordinated on it…a bill that allows a few dems to show thier home states “see I voted against Biden on this issue that’s important to our state” and a bill Biden is comfortable vetoing

Move over plastic bag debate we've got a new thing to discuss.

But in all honestly the outrage I am seeing from people today is actually dumb. It doesn't even ban actually ban plastic utensils, it just makes it so they can only give them out if the customer requests it. Honestly, do you know how many times I have gotten take out and they throw in plastic utensils that I don't need and they end up getting wasted? This seems like a good thing to me.

it also says businesses with seating capacity for 50 or more people would also be required to give customers “reusable, washable utensils” that they must return after they eat, but I imagine most businesses with that capacity are already able to do that anyway. People get mad at little things just to be mad

the "make it available on request" really feels like the way to go. especially for stuff like straws. you can cut down on like 80-90% of the waste simply by making it opt in. And then these sorts of plastics are only a small part of the problem... definitely seems the way to go

In NJ our plastic straw law already in place is the same, that you can only provide them upon request. But the majority of restaurants I've been to recently just give them to us regardless, so it's probably not as effective as it should be. But honestly, you'd think businesses would rather abide by the law anyway so they aren't giving away straws (and possibly soon utensils) that won't be used anyway and ultimately wasted money on the business.
