Like I said I work in medical billing and some hospitals are ran very poorly and if they don’t get claims out within the timely filling limit it can get adjusted off without you ever getting an actual bill. One of the only things I like about my job is just adjusting off shit that will never get paid/billed to the patient.

I’ve been working a special project the last few days adjusting high dollar claims ($4,000+) and it legit makes me happy knowing these people won’t ever have to pay those ridiculous bills.

That tweet makes me think of one thing that I never see talked about when it comes to trade jobs and that is making sure people save money for early retirement because you are not going to be wanting to do most of those type of jobs when you are older. I talked to two older guys in the trades and they are trying to tell the younger folks this.

  12. They certainly did.

At my last company we went through a name change and rebrand and it took like two years of working with a consultant to pick a font and a company motto.

I’ve never been in a mass shooting situation and hope to never be if I’m lucky, but it’s probably my biggest fear. It crosses my mind almost anytime I’m out somewhere: “where am I hiding/running if it happens?”

I feel like society is becoming so desensitized to them, but I just watched the body cam videos from Nashville and just seeing what victims are going through during those horrific acts of violence and legit cannot understand how the fuck anyone ever moves on after that. Like that needs to truly one of if not the most terrifying things any person has to go through.

Like how do these fucking ghouls of human continue and continue to downplay regulations and assault weapon bans. It blows my mind every time this happens which is legit every fucking week for a decade and more.

There is zero purpose for a fucking gun. They shouldn’t exist anymore. Watching the AR15 videos of the damage they cause … like WHY does something like that exist and can be purchased at a freakin Walmart?

I run through these thoughts weekly, so just venting out. I hate this so much.

I am not a teacher, but I work for a school district.

Here’s the insane thing: I have literally been asked by our local law enforcement - as recently as this past August - to “identify 3 objects in my office that can be used to combat an active shooter.”

And the thing about it is, I can’t figure out if it’s more batshit crazy that I have been asked this question, or that anyone reading this has NOT been asked this question.

My mom is a teacher. Part of their plan if a shooter comes in the room is for the kids to throw stuff at the shooter.

I really want to teach my kids to just run away from the sound of gunfire, because I've read reports that oftentimes the first responders on scene find all of the kids and the teachers mutilated corpses piled up in a corner of the classroom or in an adjacent bathroom, and my gut instinct says they'd have a better chance of survival just running away as fast as they can, being small targets and pretty fast moving, as opposed to just staying in a room as a sitting duck to literally be shot like a fish in a barrel, but I also know that basically goes against everything that the school teaches during their lockdown / safety / active-shooter-but-we-don't-call-it-active-shooter-because-the kids-are-still-young drills.

I am also 90% sure that I think it is wrong that their elementary school doesn't just call it an Active Shooter Drill. I understand that they don't want to traumatize the kids more than they already are, but they are literally having them act out what to do if someone bursts into their building / classroom with a high powered assault rifle and tries to kill them with it so that they know what to do and are prepared if and when that happens, which means everyone has decided there is enough of a likelihood that they need to practice (i.e. a fire or tornado vs getting hit by an asteroid), in which case I think you should be straight and clear with them and not beat around the bush or sugar coat it. "We are going to practice what to do if someone comes into the school with a gun and tries to shoot all of us." Kids are fucking smart.

A few years ago my daughter was grilling her teacher and us later about what "loud noises" were they talking about during their lockdown drill, because a fire or a wild animal getting into the building wouldn't make the kind of loud noises they were constantly alluding to. She had basically figured out that they / we were talking about gunshots, but she couldn't quite close the loop on why someone would be in the school with a gun / trying to kill them in the first place.

  24. Elementary kids would probably be frozen in fear and just do whatever the teacher tells them to in a moment of terror. In high school, it seems like you’d get students who might have more understanding of how and when it might be safe enough to run.

We have a few drills every year and really prepare the kids. Hopefully if it really does happen, they’ll know what to do.
