The new album is a lot of songs that would easily fit on the other post hiatus albums. They’re not that different.

AB/AP is the best post-hiatus album.

How’s the sound quality for anyone who has the non-GITD variant on vinyl?

Finishing up a Save Rock and Roll listen and… yeah, this thing is still my favorite Fall Out Boy album. Not “post-hiatus,” but overall. It still hits real good a decade(!) later, right in a specific subjective sweet spot that I don’t see being outdone. This whole album rollout was such a moment.

Did a MANIA listen beforehand, and I dunno that it’s the most consistent listen. There’s a point or two where some of my attention slips. But, over half of it hits, and some of it hits real good. That opener, like many of their openers, just rips.

Oddly enough, he is never right. Which is funny since even a broken clock is right twice a day. Don’t encourage him.

Respectfully disagree but even if I did agree with you on that - the songs are just written better here IMO.

The songs off Stardust are the first time since 2008 that I’ve actually connected to the lyrics. That’s 15 years of feeling nothing with FOB lyrically..

I don’t connect to lyrics about how being immortal or being remembered for centuries. A majority of the lyrics Pete wrote for the post-reunion albums feel like empty pop with nothing remotely meaningful to them. I’m sure plenty will disagree with that statement and that’s fine but that’s my personal feelings which is also fine.

However, Stardust is very much the opposite of that to me. I can connect to longing for a connection you once had for someone (Flu Game) or feeling like a shell of who you once were (title track).

Sure, there’s straight up pop tunes on Stardust (So Good Right Now), but it’s mixed in with tracks that hold weight to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you're immortal you'll be remembered for centuries. Cause you're alive.

There was actually a time where AB/AP was my 2nd favorite album of theirs but some of it has aged pretty poorly so I’d rank it 2nd least favorite now haha. Still some great deep cuts on there

I don’t have the time to list off relatable lyrics to the other three post albums. But there’s a lot. But, yea, not everyone’s gonna relate to every song. There’s some generic stuff, sure, but dismissing all those songs just feels weird. But whatever. Glad you like the new album.

But even considering personal feelings, the post-hiatus aren’t all full of vapid lyrics. I don’t think it’s fair to generalize them all based on their more generic anthem singles. To me, songs like Jet Pack Blues, Fourth of July, Bishops Knife Trick, and Miss Missing You (to name a few) hold as much weight lyrically as some of their best pre-hiatus.

  14. Isn’t every Fall Out Boy song just a bunch of vowel sounds and vibrato?

I mean, Pete writes words with no music in mind, leaving Pat to somehow make them fit in a melody. So, sometimes, yea.

I know this is a common joke but it’s genuinely easy for me to understand Patrick lol

  18. I can’t even understand a lot of Blink lyrics, let alone FOB’s. Haha. I don’t pay attention to lyrics 85% of the time anyway so it doesn’t actually bother me at all. I sing along to whatever it sounds like they’re saying, not always what they are actually saying.

    Alright

    Infinity

    FUTCT

    Folie
    TTTYG
So Much For Stardust (preliminary ranking)

    Mania
Save Rock and Roll (probably on par with Mania but I return to Mania more)

    AB/AP

This is just tiered rankings, so I'm probably still giving Mania and Save Rock and Roll 8/10.

AB/AP is the only record I really don't care to revisit.

Find just how low the general public rates MANIA pretty baffling.

I’m just now joining this thread to say I really like the record but did we really need a COVID song on this?? I feel like that could fly in 2020, maybe 2021 but man it’s so cringey to listen to now. producer has got to cut that one, I’m sorry.

  22. The song was written before Covid. It’s one of the earliest ones from these sessions. (And … IMO Covid is still happening even though no one wants to admit it anymore and I think the lyrics remain topical. Feels very everything past 2016 to me.)
