This is pretty good! I'm not blown away or anything, but it's very nice; not sure it needed to be so long, though.

    Good morning coffee album!

I generally love listening to singles and songs that are released ahead of the album, but I do sort of wish he hadn't dropped the first six tracks all at once.

  5. I’m a casual fan at best but this rules. Need to run through his older stuff again.

I've gradually been obsessing with this record all weekend. It has such an entrancing start instrumentally, but my favorite M83 moments revolve around those beautiful vocal harmonies. For that reason, Amnesia, Fantasy, and Laura all slap IMO. On the flipside, Radar, Far, Gone is absolutely devastating in the best ways.

The end tapers off in the last 2-3 tracks, but admittedly I haven't spent as much time with them as the others. Overall, an easy favorite of the year so far.

Never been able to get into them, but decided to check this out given all of the praise. It's pleasant enough but doesn't really do much for me. I could see myself adding it to my "chill music for work" playlist though.

The description that keeps coming to mind, at least outside of the title track, is the elevator music version of The War On Drugs.

You know, that is a fascinating comparison! My partner and I are both fans of TWOD (though the last album didn't hit for me as much as the two before it), and she described a similar vibe when listening to Oceans Niagara for the first time.

For me, I hear a song like Laura and get swept up in imagining what it must feel like to hear it live, with the bass pulsing and those synth/vocal highs filling the entire venue.

Obviously, music is subjective, but I have great respect for folks like you who can both give something a try and speak to why it doesn't connect as much as others.

    D'oh! Prestigious

"I fucking love it ooh" haha. Well, so far I'm in the middle of the album, used it as my office soundtrack today as I hadn't been that hyped for it, and it is so good

Deceiver -> Fantasy -> Laura is one hell of a stretch of songs. I worried this album was gonna be too long but it goes fast for me, really like this a lot.

  16. kind of reminds me of the last beach house album insofar as it’s just the band doing what they do best for a long time and it’s just a big win for that

Been a while since I’ve listened to an album where the disparity between how much it sounds like I should like it and how little I do was this wide. It’s taken me like 4 sittings to get through it. Not even saying that to be a hater, there’s a pretty good chance if I revisit in a diff headspace I’ll think it’s amazing.

I've continually come back to this album this year. Seeing them in St.Paul was great and makes the album that much better. Don't miss this one!!

    hmmm

I saw them in London and much preferred the feel of the songs live than on record.

Great gig actually. One of my favourites of the year.
