    But Spurs HAVE spent.

The squad is very good, and relatively deep compared to Liverpool or Arsenal for example.

Conte should be doing better, and now I would worry that they have wasted two more prime years of Son/Kane, and they’re at risk of both players ageing out with nothing to show for it in a few years.

  2. We’ve been buying a lot of young talent, so while I agree the Conte era was probably a mistake, it’s not like we’ve ruined any kind of rebuild by only buying older players. Majority of Paratici’s business has been young talent.

I’m not completely sold on the idea of Poch coming back but I’d prefer it over Conte right now. Poch did a great job developing young players when he arrived previously. My only worry is that we’ve been buying players for a back 3 system (Romero, Porro, Udogie) and not sure how Poch would feel about running that.

They absolutely have spent, they’ve spent a lot. But still not the levels of investment nor the targets for actually winning titles. They mostly signed project players and not addressing the real issues in their squad. Even their big hits of the year two years were cast offs from bigger teams, that being Juve. Other than they they have this weird half Conte half Spurs list of transfers. Perisic was clearly a Conte signing. Spence? Spurs. Bissouma? Spurs. They’ve half assed backing him.

    Any ideas?

  5. I don’t disagree with this, but I also don’t blame the club for not solely focusing on “his guys” with the lack of commitment he’s shown since the day he was hired. Which just goes back to the question, why did either side agree to this?

Yeah that’s what I’m kinda getting at. They hired a win now manager as a club that has absolutely no intention of going win now. I don’t blame Spurs for not going all in on signing Conte guys but doing a mix for the future. But it clearly hasn’t worked out for Conte but as you say why bring him in if you’re aren’t going to go all in?

They own Sevilla and Vasco de Gama I think

Well, this update has ruined a classic joke. Terry is still a wanker, mind you!

I mentioned this the other day but yeah I think his performances this season have been immense and he is probably City's most consistent player this year.

Honestly, I hope not. United is one of a handful of clubs in England (Liverpool, Arsenal, maybe Spurs & Everton) that are too prestigious and historic to be allowed to be used as a sportswashing plaything, even under the current shitshow that is modern football.

I hate United, but I also respect the hell out of them. It would be a sad day for the biggest, or second biggest, club in the world to have this fate.

Not to mention United, Chelsea, City and Newcastle all being owned and operated like that will only further distort and ruin the league.

It's a sad state of affairs. I've thought for a while, ever since the bidding process started, that it's sometimes better the devil you know. I'd rather keep the Glazers than become just another petrostate club.

Is it time to revisit Fernandes' "Dreams can't be buy" quote?

  17. So it looks like I'm going to be in Istanbul next month visiting my girlfriend's family. The only home match of the 3 big teams while I'm there will be Besiktas against one of the bottom of the table teams. I'm debating trying to go. Has anyone here been to a match there?

I've never been to a game in Istanbul but I would absolutely recommend going based on what I've seen of the atmospheres that Turkish ultras can create. It'll be an experience to remember. You'll also get to see Cenk Tosun's spray on hair in person!

I think everyone was waiting for it. Awful news.

The grand scale of that tragedy is really difficult to get your head around.
