I think I’m overall in for the changes this year, even if remembering some of the nuances might take me some time at first, like the 30, 20, and 15 second timers and the number of disengagements. I’m happy the game will move quicker and while I understand both sides of the defensive shift argument, I’m excited for a more natural style of play. I also think the bases while being bigger is a good thing for injuries, even if it sounded funny at first.

 

the bases one seems the dumbest but also the one you'll likely never even realize actually changed, except i know gary cohen will mention it 52x per game "well you know ronnie, now that the bases are larger..."

the pitching one is going to cause so many issues. so many guys have their own intricacies in their wind ups or preps and theyre gonna start to get assessed automatic balls or whatever and a bunch of guys are gonna get thrown out for arguing in the early days of this lol

i've been on team ban the shift since the womb

 

just don't get not dealing with outfield shifting (outfielders moving around, not infielders standing in outfield) which is much more harmful to offense. just dealing with the visual problem of infielders moving around is so dumb

 

for LHB, shortstop still gets to everything hit right back up the middle and 2B still gets balls to the pull side that they would've gotten to if they were in shallow RF instead

both SS and 2B can get to balls hit in the hole to the rightside of actual second base

I believe I did see something that Corey Seager would've hit like over .280 just based on that

 

Yeah there's a lot of hard hit grounders/line drives that will get through/fall in that didn't with the shift

 

I agree with you if we stipulate that this is only 100% true if you have a good defensive 2B. Some guys who have just been thrown out there at second the last few years are gonna get exposed though
