Popping in the thread to say how hopeful I am we get a new record and that Duplass brothers-produced doc in 2023. I've looked around online last few days but haven't found anything current as far as "new news" goes.

 

As much as id love a new 400 Unit album, an album of just the two of them would be fantastic as well.

My 2 yrs sober (from alcohol) anniversary is coming up in April--he has absolutely been an influence in that journey.

 

Does he have a new album coming this year, I assume?

 

not sure - June will be 3 years since Reunions, but I don't know if he/the band has been recording at all.

 

I think it might be recorded? I know he’s done studio time with the band and he’s tweeted about writing/recording too I believe. Likely that he’s holding off til later in the year to let Amanda’s heavy touring cycle from her record last year wind down as that’s consistent with what theyve done in the pet. He has been playing shows in the last month though and I have not seen any new songs pop up in setlists, unlike “Overseas” which was a set staple by late 2019. So we will see.

You’re now making me doubt that he’s been in the studio with the band and that it wasn’t just him and Amanda though…

 

Also relevant: Shoals Fest is taking a pause in 2023 but will be back in 2024. That points to a second half of 2023 album release to me, and then next summer will be the year they maybe hit a few fests (although he’s sometimes made the decision to skip fests altogether in particular years before) culminating with Shoals Fest return in October 2024

 

This June is also 10 yr anniversary of Southeastern (maybe something special coming to celebrate that), there's the Scorsese movie that he and Sturgill are in coming out at some point this year, and the documentary made about him by the Duplass brothers, but have no idea when that is releasing.
