There's so many where the pilot is the best, but the show sucked then got cancelled. That's showbiz baby

 

glad this thread got bumped… girlfriend has never seen this so a rewatch is in order.

Also I think the Twin Peaks pilot kind of counts, but the return has some strong episodes so i’m not sure if it remains the best one.

 

Twin Peaks definitely surpasses its pilot, and then some. The finale is incredible but I feel weird calling it the best hour of the Return when so much of it relies on what came before.

Six Feet Under is a good call, that finale is achingly beautiful.

Also, going back to the Matt episode discussion, I definitely remember in the lead up to Season 3 how excited we all were for that season's "Matt episode" because the ones in the first two seasons were so good lol. And it did not disappoint.

But this is still one of my favorite scenes in a show full of great scenes

 

Watched Heat for the first time(yes I know) and was going crazy trying to figure out where I recognized Deniro’s love interest from. She’s from this and looks the exact same lol she has not aged.

 

I just realized today that Kevin Sr. is also Jack Crawford in Silence of the Lambs.
