Chorus.fm Mixtape exchange thread

For those who may be unaware of these threads, basically you create a mixtape, upload it to a file sharing site, and at a certain date it's shared along with a bunch of others in this thread.

Over the years on AP we've done several variations of this; an hour long mixtape with no restrictions, or a short mixtape introducing people to one artist, or a mixtape with one particular theme etc.

Would people be interested in kicking off a new site by participating in this? We can decide what sort of mixtapes we want to share when we see what sort of numbers are interested!

Looks like we're getting some decent numbers now!

For those who are familiar with these, how do you fancy formatting this? A partner system, or posting a couple a day?

I figure as it's the first of hopefully many, we could just do a standard one hour long mix each? But if people would prefer to do a shorter, more focused mix, I'm fine with that! Totally happy to rule by committee here haha.

I think it might be easier to narrow down the choices people have to make to put on their tape. I was thinking maybe like overlooked tracks of 2014 or 2015.

 

Would this be a weekly or monthly thing? I think themes and artist intros could be really cool, with or without a partner system. I do something similar in another music-discussion group and it's been pretty fun/successful thus far.

 

What's happened in the past is that I set a deadline, let's say two weeks today for everybody to create their mixtape and PM them to me.

If we're doing a partner system, I would randomly assign you a partner, I'd PM each of you the others mix. Everybody's mixes would be available from day 1.

If we do a daily post system, every day I'd post a few mixes in this thread, and we'd all discuss them as a group.

Both formats have their pros and cons! Happy to do either one.

Is there any chance we could use Spotify/Apple Music or some kind of streaming or playlist software for mix sharing? I can probably make do with using personal files but I don't have a lot on my current devices to work with.

Okay, so here's what I think we should do.

Create a mixtape, no more than an hour long, and PM it to me. You can give your mixtape a theme (Spring songs, Overlooked songs of 2015, best of Motown etc), if you like, or it can just be a collection of songs you're enjoying. Once you've created a mixtape, upload it to a file-sharing site (I'd recommend Dropbox or Zippyshare) and PM me the link and the tracklisting. I will then assign you a partner at random and when the time is right, I'll send you a PM with each other's mixes. I will also post all the mixes in here at the same time, so everything is available.

Deadline; I was thinking two weeks today, Sunday 17th April. I will then post the mixes the following Monday. Does that sound fine?
