  1. "Additional Vocals by Steven Branstrom, Ali Mosshart, Andy Nelson"

Is that Alison Mosshart from Discount and the Dead Weather?

Had no expectations for this, but enjoying it a lot. It I didn’t know any better I’d have thought this was a totally different band also named Fireworks after that first song

  12. Press release:

Fireworks are back! The Detroit-based group have kicked off the new year with the surprise release of their first new album in nine years, Higher Lonely Power. Out now via the band's own Funeral Plant Collective, Higher Lonely Power is a sweeping statement that pushes Fireworks' trademark hooks and immediacy into bold new territory.

In an in-depth interview with the band, Stereogum praised the new record, saying, "Rendering their thinking person’s pop-punk in widescreen with string sections, choral arrangements, expansive post-rock song structures, and juddering breakbeats, Higher Lonely Power builds on Fireworks’ impressive catalog rather than writing it out of their history."

    https://www.stereogum.com/2209202/fireworks-higher-lonely-power/music/

Higher Lonely Power is Fireworks' first full-length since 2014's Oh, Common Life, and directly follows their 2019 single "Demitasse" which was the first sign of their impending new record. Guitarist Chris Mojan discussed the long road to the album saying, "We appreciate the opportunity to create together and continued to do so during our hiatus, regardless of name and outlet. Higher Lonely Power gave us the chance to be selfish and self expressive, without the pressure or expectation that comes from playing in a band. We just needed to work through some personal things first, good and bad."

The album's 12 songs find the group continuing their ambitious streak, delving into a broad range of sounds without sacrificing their knack for massive melodies. Vocalist David Mackinder's soaring voice creates a striking cohesion throughout Higher Lonely Power as the band taps into biting post-hardcore, widescreen indie rock, driving guitar pop, and more. It's a vibrant and compelling return that's sure to please longtime fans and new listeners alike.

What a start to 2023. Just starting my second listen and honestly, it's so good to hear them play again. I love where they've gone musically, very into the synths and strings. Immediate standouts: I Want to Start a Religion With You, Funeral Plant, Blood in the Milk.

A little sad to not have Demitasse nestled somewhere on this album, I've been listening to that pretty consistently since they released it and it still hasn't lost any of its magic.

This is massive. Anyone else getting some block party-esque flourishes on here? Love the evolution on this one

Certainly not a record 21 year old me would "get" but what that 30 year old me definitely does.

    Got a light?

First listen was driving home at 3 am lol, first impressions were: very good album, heavy, intro is crazy, some standouts in both halves, the closer is beautiful

God Approved Insurance Plan, Megachurch, Machines Kept You Alive, Veins in David’s Hand are fantastic.

Have had all four percolating in my brain since listening yesterday. When Demitasse was released I had to sit down and learn it on guitar immediately; just did the same with Machines. Both are such interesting progressions.
