Agreed. It's a shame Rare Feeling hasn't connected with more people here, I think it's pretty easily one of the best albums of the 2010s.

 

It's been a strange, difficult and transformative year for me. I got divorced and moved out of my home to the closest two bedroom apartment I could find to my now ex wife and 8 year old daughter. I had to go through that pain and loss mostly alone. I spent the entirety of 2021 in an overpriced basement apartment and none of my guy friends visited even once.

I was leaving a marriage I gave everything to and had received little to nothing back in return, especially in the final 3 years before we threw in the towel. I loved my wife and she didn't love me anymore and I had to accept that truth and let her be free.

After a few months of finding a new routine and a new sense of stability with my daughter bouncing back and forth between my apartment and my former home I entered the strange world of on-line dating and I must say it's been interesting to say the least.

I've made some wonderful friends that I still talk to on a daily basis. I've had a lot of fun. I've experienced some weird date stories and met some interesting people but also some great times and great people. I've had hookups and breakups and everything in between in this weird dating landscape that is a sea of gray areas, mixed expectations and a lot of unsure, uncertain, broken and searching and complex people. I've learned so much about myself, about others, about women, about life, about parenting, about strength and weakness and love and pain and I've learned what's important. I've learned the importance of self and self care. I've learned that those of us with extreme empathy that give so much of ourselves to others need to take the time to also make sure our own needs in life are being met and attended to.

I've learned that there's no rewriting of history. I've learned that there's no going back and so dwelling on whats lost or past or missing is incredibly unhealthy if done in anything more than small reminder sized doses. I've learned to let history be a lesson not a curse and I hope anyone reading this who may need to hear it can learn that lesson too. All things come to an end at some point, both the good and the bad and we have so much power to shape ourselves and our lives but in realizing that we also must realize that power only extends so far. Divorce was never an option for me in my mind until I had no choice. Now I'm realizing it should have probably happened years ago because I was giving all of myself to someone that couldn't give me anything in return.

Here's to hoping anyone going through anything in their lives finds themselves and finds a way through in 2023.

Sorry for the ramble. This wasn't planned and is probably poorly worded because I'm big thumb small keyboard typing on a cell phone.
