FYI, us grind nerds consider Wormrot grindcore for people who don't like grindcore too. Kinda like Turnstile for hardcore. Doesn't detract from its quality at all, but it's definitely more accessible.

 

Wormrot is one of the few grind bands I can get into so that tracks.

Randomly decided to go listen to bands I haven’t in forever the other day, one was 3 Inches of Blood and I forgot how fun they were. Fire Up The Blades is a cool album

Antichrist Siege Machine, Miasmatic Necrosis, Thantifaxath, and Killing Pace was fun last night.

 

Thantifaxath are the fuckin best

 

Yeah, they were pretty great last night. Only minor complaint is that their cloaked aesthetics and black metal doesn't work as well when all of the stage lights are on, but they played tight and sounded great.

 

Is Skeletonwitch still a thing? Feels like forever since they’ve made a peep.

 

Adam, the vocalist who replaced Chance, has been busy with with Pulchra Morte. Looks like they're doing some midwest dates in the new year.

Evan, the bassist, has a new post-punk project called Dreamwell.

Nothing real big on social media either, but no break up announcement so there's still hope.

it was a very black metal year this year for me. all belong to the night by drudkh was probably my favorite

 

Hopefully they make a comeback in the near future, Devouring Radiant Light was a cool new direction for the band and I’d like to see them keep pushing it.

 

I didn't find myself connecting with much new metal music this year. Most of what I find myself coming back to is on the more melodic side of things: Cave In, Sumerlands, and more recently Elder.

Give me some good heavy shit from 2022!

 

This is one of those bands I associate with my earliest days on Chorus and hanging out in this thread. Them and Revocation always occupied a similar space in my head. Both of them feel like they fell off the face of the Earth.

skeletonwitch kicked out the member that was abusive, released an incredible album after, then just disappeared. hopefully they have something cooking.

 

Revocation is very much still a thing. They released a new record this year (in my opinion, maybe their best) and toured with Cannibal Corpse and did a headlining run in 2022 and are going out with Morbid Angel in 2023.

 

Yeah, I feel the same way. Like there’s some good stuff that dropped this year for sure but as a whole, metal didn’t capture my attention much this year.

 

Astronoid, Immolation, Artificial Brain, Undeath, Moon Tooth, Spiritworld, Blackbraid, and Hath have all been getting regular rotation from me this year

I'm still going through the whole thread for the heck of it. I'm up to page 63 (July 2017). My first post on that page is about Norma Jean lol

Man I used to listen to so much more metal, and music in general. I think around 2019-2020 (hm what major event happened during that period?) is when I started to listen to way less music. I used to actually have good recs and was generally keeping up with most bands I was interested in, finding new bands seemingly every week, etc

Feels like decades ago. I've listened to maybe 10-12 new albums this year? Probably less than 20 last year as well.

 

Still working out a year end list, and have a lot left to listen to, but here's a bunch of heavy stuff I liked this year. There are a lot of hardcore/adjacent records I loved too that I'll list in that thread at some point soon too.
