  1. Got a report from this thread that I'm just seeing now and it looks like @sophos34 (and a lot of other users) have said exactly what I would have, better than I ever could. It shouldn't be hard to be conscious and courteous of others when posting about a game (or anything) that could be considered controversial AT BEST and unethical to engage with at worst. Please keep our entire community in mind when posting, and if you have any issues with what's being said itt, you can message me directly. That being said, it looks like the primary instigator has bowed out, so let's keep the new discussion going and to everyone who spoke up (including the person who sent the report), thank you.

  2. The story is pretty straight-forward so far actually! I don't know why the outbreak has happened yet, but the events that unfold definitely make sense.

I don't think your character is too OP, I've struggled heaps and I am playing on normal difficulty. My score is largely based on the fact that the reason I play games is to engage with well thought out mechanics, and I really do like how multi-faceted the combat is in this one. I also think the game's reliance on melee has been overstated by the press, you can do plenty of shooting, and I think you should too, to avoid the aforementioned gang-ups.

I think if they launched this game with better PC performance and at a price around $50, this game would've sold gangbusters.

It was weird listening to multiple people complain about how melee heavy it is but watching them use guns in the footage, like if melee sucks that much can you rely on guns?

  4. melee doesn't suck, it's actually very cool. Like Punch Out meets Condemned.

But if two motherfuckers come at you at once you best believe I won't be ducking and weaving in real life either, so why should Jacob?! lmao

Let me be clear, melee is an absolute vital part of that game, but you have plenty of ammo to dispatch and maim most enemies before having to engage them hand to hand

    @sophos34 @Helloelloallo

I already posted this video on the thread, but this shows exactly what I am talking about regarding the combat

Fromsoft has by far the best art team in the business. Im not even into mechs, but everything in that Armored Core trailer looked fantastic.

Video games (particularly world of Warcraft) were the first thing I was really addicted to but as someone who is absolutely a cocaine but also (and mostly) a fentanyl addict (in recovery thank god) I can tell you there are some similarities between the two addictions but also plenty different such as the entire element of chemical and physical dependence on a substance. Still though, the takeaway shouldn’t be that fortnite = cocaine so fortnite = bad because cocaine = bad, it should be oh wow addiction is a multi faceted mental illness/brain disorder that can manifest across many different stimuli and should be treated accordingly (and also decriminalize all recreational drugs). Yeah there’s something to be said about developers using manipulative tactics to keep gamers interested over long periods of time (again as a wow player I absolutely get I’m being toyed with every time I start the gear grind) but also that very thing dates all the way back to coin operated arcade machines so

I've spent an amount of money on gacha games that I'd die before I'd disclose, but I don't blame anyone else but me for that.

Honestly, and maybe this is an unfair take, but part of this reeks to me of hand-wringing and bad parenting.

I mean, the bit about the kid spending several hours playing the game and staying up late just reminds me of my own childhood, and I turned out fine.

This is coming from someone who doesn't have kids though, so I dunno if I'd feel different if I did.

The whole aesthetic is incredible. It gives me Matrix battle of zion vibes. Which I know the Wachowskis were pulling from anime influences but at 13 I hadn't really seen any mech stuff before.

I know we’re past it now but I do want to apologize for posting that tweet that started a conversation and made people uncomfortable.

  17. I don't have any experience with substance addiction so I can't offer any input on that, it's just kind of tiresome to see the old stigmatization of video games still going on as if it's the only hobby that's a waste of time or the only art medium that's super violent

I am straightedge and have no experience myself with addiction but have close relatives that have. With that being said, literally anything can be addicting.

  20. Balancing guns with melee just sounds like Dishonored, or Bioshock, or any other fps that offers a variety of options. Hell, focusing on melee is some of the most fun I've had with character builds in Borderlands games (obligatory "fuck Randy Pitchford"). And in any of these aforementioned games you can suddenly find yourself surrounded by enemies and have to think of a way through it, that's kind of how things work.

Video games were actively encouraged in my house, my parents had a SNES before they ever had kids, and we spent many nights on the couch watching mom play something, but they put limits on screen time and later on when my little brother was born (he’s 14 now) it was the same way and yeah video games are a huge part of my life and both my brothers lives and my parents mostly encourage the hobby as they always have instead of punishing it and if we started to play too much they would encourage us to spend time doing something else for a bit. Like my little brother plays ping pong with my parents every single night just to break up the gaming sessions

Everything in moderation is completely fine. (Ok, to an extent, lol)

Video games have come so far and are such a great source of imagination and socialization. I remember having so much fun playing Halo 3 on LAN and my brother and I playing the genesis together and having a blast. Yes, microtransactions, etc are bad but as I said, everything in moderation.
