I liked it before, but it's such an odd choice for a single. It's much better in context.

Hadn't heard Empty Street before, so this is new. Very very PW

This is absolutely huge, it could actually fit on PW and I don't think a first time listener would bat an eye.

I think it was done intentionally

Not feeling I'm a Wrecking Ball much. It's too repetitive for my taste, and it breaks the flow of the album to my ears. Whereas Leave a Light On made sense as a sort of conclusion to that first act, this one doesn't quite work here, I don't think.

    Why do you think that?

I think they wanted to save the rest of the songs for the album to be heard in the order they were.

Yeah, they sure do.. and musically I think the song's fantastic, but the idea behind it leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Not towards the band themselves, just the way they felt about this subject.

That's why I think I would've just released Rest in Peace and saved the rest for later, that strategy makes most sense to me.

absolutely adore empty street, favorite song from the big if demos - bunny & me and always almost come close though. the big if version of empty street was one of the songs i had in constant rotation as this horrifically toxic relationship i had last year slowly imploded over the course of numerous months (i have so many stories that i can tie in some way to yc, it's kind of ridiculous.) it's definitely right at home on this album, though i could see it on paper walls as well. i would never in a million years take dear bobbie off paper walls, but i think empty street would fit nicely in its place.

yeah in hindsight it seems like a pretty perfect way to insure a quieter lead-up to a fantastic send-off.

I was almost positive Fields & Fences was going to include some sort of career reprise, but it's perfect as it is. I'm blown away by that one.

I didn't even start crying until the middle of the last song. It finally hit me and now I am sad.

That's gotta be their best closer, right? Up until now I would've given that title to Southern Air, but I feel like the scope and build of this one just destroys even that song.
