That 10 year deal is looking good.

 

So I have played about 4-5 hours of God of War (I am not far at all - just finished closing down the mining rigs) and I'm loving it. The combat is exhilarating, and the controls and character movement feels so smooth. Also the world looks AMAZING. I know someone said it's not a great looking game in comparison to others on the PS5 already, but as an intro to the sytem... wow, I think it's stunning. Especially boating around the lake and all the detail under the water (and there's already been a fair amount of diversity in environments so far). The enemies aren't particularly well designed, and their movements seem clunky but that's really the only graphical complaint.

My only other complaint gameplay wise is that there are too many areas that look accessible or should be accessible for Kratos, but aren't. A lot of poorly designed dead ends. I hate when there's a wall that should be climbable by your characters, but they're not without any explanation besides 'you're not meant to go there'.

 

I think it was a case of expectations vs. reality. They made it seem like a big Zelda-like game with puzzles and dungeons. It did have some of that, but at its core it's way more story-based.

I quit playing when I got to the first major city and there was just an endless amount of cutscenes without any gameplay for literally an hour.

 

It's Zelda in mechanics, but not in practice. It's not like there's a big overworld that opens up after a while. It's a linear set of areas divided by chapters, and while there are some secrets and collectibles, it's never to the extent that a Zelda game would have.

And there's no fishing.

 

Player's Log: Atelier Lulua

Wrapped up my 10th Atelier game at about 37ish hours. Another one of those difficulty spikes at the final boss that forced me to really go hardcore in item/gear crafting. Like all Ateliers, there's some post-game stuff but I think I'm good for now. That does it for all the Arland games.

I picked up Ryza 2 on sale and already started that. Already they fixed some things in the battle system that were detractors in the first. Should be a fun one.

The amount of painting involved is crazy. I’ve watched tutorials on how to paint certain figures and it’s like a ton of different colors and painting techniques, I don’t think I could ever master that.

Player's Log.

Fenyx Rising: Got all moves/godly powers, now just upgrading them and filling out my health/carrying capacity for arrows. Completed a handful of side quests I'd left pending because I forgot to zoom in on the map haha. Started Ares's domain, got the map and cleared the Wraith Lair and a couple of chests. Should be lots of good questing and exploring ahead here.

The Alliance Alive: Got to chapter 18, still quite enjoying the game (and appreciating how fast it's moving). The three (four?) different plotlines are finally converging (and making sense in my head at last). Great music too.

The First Tree: Began this last night, beat the first level. Should be done with all six this weekend. Lovely little game, and I'm invested in the storyline.

Playing Ragnarok and in the main explorable area of Vanaheim. Loving all the side content and hidden chests/puzzles. Also the combat is really starting to expand and get complex. My blades and Axe can do so many different combos now it’s daunting.

 

I was wheelin and dealin on those elves last night it was sick.

So I guess The Callisto Protocol is so terrifying, the game itself is shaking in fear.

 

PS5 is the only platform that seems to run that game well and even there it has plenty of issues.
(120 Sony devs helped them with that version)

 

I only saw sphere hunters quick impressions that all the main story/side content took her 10+ hours. Which is fine I don’t need another 50+ hour game like Ragnarok. I’ll probably wait for a sale.
